AI can be used to exploit — deepfakes without consent, misinformation, manipulation, extraction from communities that were never protected in the first place.

Or it can be used to build — buying back our time, closing gaps that were never about our talent, creating the things we’ve seen in our heads for years but never had the resources to build. Protecting and building wealth, ownership, and sovereignty for people who’ve never had it handed to them.

Same tool. Two completely different intentions.

We know which one we’re here for.

One of the greatest privileges of my life is helping people tell their stories. Documenting who we are while we are doing the work. While we are becoming the people our communities need. While we are making the kind of changes that history will eventually talk about.

These photos shot by @monroe.banuelos are from a production shoot where @poweredbymuse got to do exactly that — sit with Josiah and help pull out the layers of who he is and what he is building. To be in service of someone else’s story is one of my favorite things I get to do.

We should know our neighbors. We should know the people doing the work right next to us. And we should be documenting all of it — because if we don’t, who will?

I know the conversation around AI is complicated. I know the concerns are real. I hold space for all of that. But I also know what it has done for my capacity, my time, my nervous system, and my ability to build something like Our House largely on my own.

The conversation is not all negative. And the people sitting on the fence deserve a room where they can bring their questions, their curiosities, and their hesitations — and actually get some answers.
