LEAN FOR SUMMER❓NOT THIS YEAR.
-
Usually around April or May is when I start my annual cut. Whether it be to make weight for a powerlifting competition or last year, doing my first bodybuilding show, I’m totally locked in around this time. It’s weird…I feel like I should be doing something more around this time as I always feel my best and most productive during the summer months.
-
This pandemic definitely threw a lot of people’s plans, intentions, and routines out of whack. I’m no exception.
-
Although I have my annual leaning out period, I never begin unless I feel I have reached my goals for that year. This year, that goal was getting back to squatting 405 for reps and a new PR before I feel I’ve built enough NEW muscle to begin the process again. That lets me know I’m getting better.
-
I spend the majority of the year in a calorie surplus trying to build muscle through getting in my training, nutrition, and sleep. That means I spend the majority of the year without abs. I advocate the same thing to everyone I have the pleasure of coaching.
-
The quarantine threw off my goal and I’m not able to train as I’d like. It sucks but it’s ok. I still get to train and dieting is a privilege and a first world problem. For that I’m grateful. I don’t need shredded abs all year round but I do need to feel and know that I’m getting better.
-
I’m dedicating this new month to mastery. I’ve realized it’s the one driving focus in my life that gives me purpose. It’s what keeps me locked in. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @powerphysique

What gets measured gets managed and improved 📊

I’m a nerd when it comes to training and getting stronger. I want the DATA.

@poin_t_go gives me hard numbers on every rep. On days I’m not feeling it, the bar speed tells me whether to push heavier or scale back and protect my recovery.

The older I get, the more recovery is everything. The numbers keep the ego honest.

I often fear regressing or not pushing as hard as I used to when I was younger so it’s nice to have a tool to objectively telling you are working hard enough.

Move light weights FAST so heavy weights feel light. Drive that bar with violent intent on every single rep, light or heavy, as hard as you physically can.

I tell my clients all the time…if you can’t move 135 lbs fast, how do you expect to move 225 lbs faster⁉️ It only slows down as the weight climbs. So you train the light stuff like it’s heavy.

The ONE thing you control is how fast you drive that bar. Now I’ve got @poin_t_go to prove it in real time. The bar speed doesn’t lie 💪

That’s how you build explosiveness.

That’s the POWER in POWER PHYSIQUE.

Got a little gift from my friends in South Korea at @poin_t_go🇰🇷📦

This is VBT Device (Velocity Based Training) and here’s what it does…

It clips right onto the bar and measures how FAST every rep actually moves. Bar speed could be an under-utilized tool in strength training, and almost nobody is using it.

I’m putting this thing through real sessions over the next few weeks.

Next video I’m breaking down exactly what VBT is and how it can be a tool to make YOU stronger 👀

💪 MUSCLE + MOBILITY🧘

Heavy weights don’t make you stiff. Half reps and skipped ranges do.

1️⃣ Reverse 180 Rotational Lunge

One leg at a time through all 3 planes of motion

 🌀 Sagittal. Frontal. Transverse. 🌀

Hips, glutes and legs trained in every direction they’re built to move. Grapplers, this one grooves your level change every time you shoot 🤼

2️⃣ KB Goblet Cossack Squat

Staple in my hip mobility work. If I can get into this one, squats are going to feel amazing that day.

Loads the adductors and groin through a huge range. Stay low passing guard. Build a guard that doesn’t break.

Most groin strains happen when someone pushes down on your inner thigh mid pass. Strong mobile adductors are your insurance.

3️⃣ Single Arm Tranverse Plane KB Swing

A unique way to train the core. Side to side instead of front to back. Rotational power for athleticism, plus it loosens up the lats and back at the same time.

The lesson here is if you train through FULL range of motion and the weights become the best mobility tool you own.

You don’t have to choose between powerlifter strong and bodybuilder aesthetic. Build both. You’ll move like an athlete on top of it.

The gym is a playground. Explore. Get creative.

Have fun while getting stronger.

TRAIN EVERYTHING. Leave no stone unturned.

I just came back from a 3 month vacation
with the biggest legs of my life.

Here’s the exact workout I used to build them 👇

Smith Machine Squats
↳ Top set x6 + 3 back off sets x6
↳ 10-15% lighter on back off sets

Smith Machine Calf Raises
↳ 3 sets x12
↳ Full stretch. Peak contraction. Every rep.

Bulgarian Split Squats
↳ 3 sets x8-10 per leg
↳ The hardest movement. The most important one.

Leg Press
↳ 4 sets x8-10
↳ Constant tension.

Leg Extensions
↳ 3 sets x10-12
↳ Quad finisher. Push through when it burns.

Ab Wheel
↳ Strong legs need a strong core.

I came back the heaviest I’ve ever been
without being fat.

Vacation doesn’t kill gains.
No program does.

Most jacked guys can’t do this.

Strength without mobility is just
half the equation.

You can move 300lbs on a bar.
But can you actually move your body?

This is what training to be strong
AND athletic looks like.

Not built for the mirror.
Built to perform.

This is POWER PHYSIQUE.

Follow me ➡️ next post I’m breaking down
the exact leg program that built my legs
while I was away on vacation.

Motivation is the reward for taking action.

Not a requirement for it.

Action ➡️ Motivation ➡️ More Action ➡️ Results

That’s the real motivation cycle.

💯 dips with ➕ 50 pounds in 9:43 minutes.

Been dealing with a forearm injury so I can’t barbell or dumbbell press.

I’ll die on this hill that dips can give you 90% of the upper body gains.

If you don’t have to do 10 reps per set, it can be whatever you can manage. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @powerphysique

Most people butcher core training.

Only doing countless crunches = weak abs.

Here are my 3 principles to build a strong, athletic, injury-resistant core:

🔹 Ab Wheel – PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD in anti-extension, the best core strength builder
🔹 Side Bends – Obliques, low back health, mobility, and lateral stability
🔹 Rotational Work – Athleticism, explosive power, and real-world carryover

Train across all planes. Save this post if you’re serious about performance.

Drop a 🔥 if you’re going to try this or DM me “CORE” for the full weekly core training plan.
