While Latin One focuses on craft, Latin Two fully embraces the design process with the goal of creating a multi-weight typeface. One of the things we value most about Latin One is that you don’t only learn from your own project. ✨

During our weekly live feedback sessions, we look at different typefaces, different questions, and different ways of solving problems. Following someone else’s project can make you reconsider your own decisions, notice things you hadn’t seen before, and become more open to trying a different approach.
That’s why feedback in Latin One is a shared experience: even when we’re looking at someone else’s typeface, there’s always something to learn.

Watching a typeface change week after week is one of our favorite parts of Latin One. ✨

Looking back on the course, Kristian described the experience as seeing his project transform “from something that looked like a typeface, to a real one.”

The hybrid format also gave him the flexibility to follow the pre-recorded lectures at his own pace, while using the weekly live sessions to get feedback and keep developing his work.

Seven weeks of drawing, looking, adjusting, proofing — and looking again.

Latin One is a 7-week online course through Practica Program, taught by me @nicoledotin and @solmatas. The course focuses on strengthening the fundamentals of typeface design — drawing, spacing, proofing, contrast, optical corrections, and learning to see your typeface as a system. You’ll need to bring a typeface already in progress, but it doesn’t need to be fully developed. The course combines pre-recorded lectures with one live feedback session per week.

Welcome back, Salomi Desai!

Salomi returns as a visiting lecturer for the fourth edition of Devanagari One: Introduction to the Script.
Based in Mumbai, Salomi works across Latin and Indic type design at Universal Thirst. Her path into type began with branding and packaging, followed by an internship at Mota Italic and type design studies at Ésad Amiens, where she developed a Latin and Devanagari editorial typeface.

We’re happy to have her with us again this year!
