Ever noticed that when your gut is having a rough week, your immune system seems to be struggling too? More colds, slower recovery, that heavy run-down feeling? 🤧

You're not imagining the overlap. Digestion, immunity and energy can feel like separate things, but they share a lot of the same underlying terrain. Around 70% of your immune cells live in your gut, where they're constantly interacting with your gut microbes.

A recent review pulled together the evidence on probiotics and found researchers are increasingly studying them across gut health, immune regulation and general wellbeing together, rather than as a single-symptom fix.

Two nuances worth knowing 👇

🔬 Effects are strain-specific. "Probiotics" is a big umbrella, and a fermented food isn't the same as a studied probiotic strain.

🔄 Most probiotic microbes are visitors, not residents. They tend to pass through rather than settle in permanently.

If your gut and your immunity often seem to dip together, it can help to look at the whole picture. A functional practitioner can help you connect the dots, and gut microbiome testing can give you a clearer view of what's actually going on in your gut.

Does your gut and immune system seem to have "off" weeks at the same time? Tell us in the comments, and save this for later 🌿 by @pranathrive

💧 Do you drink lots of water with your meals?

It might be time to rethink that habit. 👀

Drinking most of your water between meals rather than alongside them is one simple habit to consider when looking at your digestive routine. Small changes to how and when we eat and drink can help us become more mindful of our digestion.

Go-to habits?

✨ Hydrate consistently throughout the day.
✨ Keep drinks with meals small if that feels better for your digestion.
✨ If you enjoy apple cider vinegar, try a little diluted in water before a meal.

And remember, it’s about being mindful of your habits, not getting caught up in the little things! Try drinking most of your water between meals, keep drinks alongside food small, and tune into how your body feels. Small changes can make a difference over time.

Following on from a recent post about going gluten free, I just wanted to pop a little reminder here about this super handy app that Amanda found. It’s called Find Me Gluten Free.

It’s free, easy to use, and helps you locate cafés and restaurants that cater to gluten-free diets — whether you're in your own suburb or travelling interstate.

🌍 You can filter by location, read reviews from other gluten-free eaters, and even check how dedicated places are (e.g. whether they avoid cross-contamination).

It’s available on both Apple and Android app stores, and surprisingly accurate — even in regional areas!

💬 Tried the app before? Got a favourite local gluten-free spot? Share it in the comments — we’d love to compile a community list!

AND... make sure to share this post with all your gluten free friends! by @pranathrive

30 different plant foods a week 🌱✨

One of the simplest ways to support a diverse, resilient gut microbiome? Eat a wider variety of plants.

Different plant foods provide different types of fibre, polyphenols and nutrients, helping nourish a wider range of beneficial gut bacteria.

And if you’re not at 30 yet, don’t stress.

For some people — particularly those with IBS or SIBO — increasing fibre and plant variety too quickly can lead to more bloating, gas or changes in bowel habits. In these cases, gut healing often needs to come first, then gradually build up plant variety and fibre as your tolerance improves.

Start where your gut is comfortable, then build from there.

You don't need to eat 30 different plants every day — the goal is 30 different plant foods across the week.

And variety can be as simple as:

🍓 Adding berries and chia to your breakfast
🥦 Swapping between different vegetables throughout the week
🥜 Mixing a few different nuts and seeds into meals
🌿 Using fresh herbs and spices
🫘 Choosing a different grain or legume each week
🥬 Adding a handful of leafy greens to smoothies, eggs or salads

If you're currently eating 10 different plants a week, aim for 15. Then 20. Then keep building.

Your gut microbiome loves variety — and small changes add up. 🤍

For those with IBS, SIBO or significant dysbiosis, suddenly increasing fibre and plant variety can sometimes worsen symptoms like bloating, gas, pain or bowel irregularity. In these cases, gut healing often needs to come first ✨ by @pranathrive

🦷 Your gut health doesn't start in your stomach-it starts in your mouth.

Your mouth is home to its own unique microbiome, made up of hundreds of species of bacteria that play an important role in your overall health. When the oral microbiome is balanced, it supports healthy teeth, gums, and the first stage of digestion.

Digestion begins the moment you start chewing. Taking the time to chew your food thoroughly (20-30 times) helps:

✨ Break food into smaller pieces
✨ Mix food with saliva and digestive enzymes
✨ Support nutrient absorption
✨ Reduce the workload on the rest of your digestive system

Looking after your oral health is about more than preventing cavities. Brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, staying hydrated, and keeping up with dental check-ups all help support a healthy oral microbiome—which may also benefit your gut and overall wellbeing.

Small habits really do add up.

A few years ago, we set out to create something we couldn’t find anywhere else. ✨🦠

After running microbiome testing with thousands of clients, I kept seeing the same patterns come up again and again. Certain combinations of markers that needed to be addressed together — but to get the ingredients I actually wanted, I’d often have to combine products from three or four different companies.

So Owen and I decided to create our own.

That’s how GutNourish came to life.

We recently launched it, and it’s been pretty special seeing something we’ve spent so long working on finally out in the world.

GutNourish is formulated around those common microbiome patterns and the latest research, with four key pillars in mind: repair, nourish, balance and protect.

Full strength. No fillers. Just high-quality ingredients, thoughtfully formulated and made in Australia.

Your daily gut health support 🤍

If you haven’t discovered GutNourish yet, you can find it here:

Ever added more fibre to support your gut, then felt more bloated than before? 🌾

You're not imagining it, and your gut isn't broken.

Recent research has been looking at prebiotic fibres that ferment quickly, weighing their benefits against their FODMAP load and how well people actually tolerate them.

The key takeaway: a fibre being beneficial and a fibre being well tolerated aren't the same thing.

For a sensitive gut, how quickly a fibre ferments is part of the picture, not just whether it's "healthy." And feeling worse is often about pace, not a sign that fibre isn't for you.

The bigger goal is rarely fewer foods forever. It's rebuilding the capacity to enjoy more of them. 🌱

Not a figure of speech. 🌿

Your small intestine can't break down the inulin-type fructans in asparagus — which is exactly the point. They travel through intact and arrive in the colon, where Bifidobacterium gets to work on them.

And here's the part that makes it interesting: bifidobacteria release acetate and lactate as they ferment. Those become fuel for the butyrate producers further down the chain. One fibre, two tiers of the ecosystem fed.

There's more in there too — flavonoids and saponins that also reach the colon largely unabsorbed, where your bacteria decide what to do with them.

Green or purple, thick or thin spears, all fine. It's spring here, so it's at its best right now. 🌱

Feed the microbiome, don't restrict it.
