Our PSA (Pregnantish Service Announcement) series is designed to show people who are trying to support us what to say and what is less helpful (& even hurtful) to say when we experience another setback because of infertility and/or during a fertility treatment:

The secret sauce of relationships is acknowledgement, and this advice applies to *any* hard experience or grief someone may be carrying 🧡 by @pregnantish

Was anyone surprised that the World Health Organization recently updated those impacted by infertility to 1 in 6?!

Finally we are seeing more + more about modern baby making and infertility in mainstream press & we were SO excited yesterday to learn that the pregnantish podcast was picked by the New York Times Sunday Style section yesterday for the recommended “listen”!!

What happens when your infertility journey unfolds in front of millions of viewers, but the most painful moments never make it to air?

You may know Demi Engemann (@demilucymay) from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. But behind the cameras, she’s been navigating a reality millions know all too well: infertility and the pain of endometriosis.

In our latest episode of the Pregnantish Podcast, part of our “Reality of Infertility” series, Demi gets candid about her 5+ year journey trying to conceive with husband Bret and the emotional moments that never made it to air - including a heartbreaking and vulnerable pregnancy test moment (Momtok played “Pregnancy Roulette” on camera!) that aired for millions of viewers who didn’t fully understand the backstory.

In this episode, we were fortunate to be joined by fertility specialist Dr. Lisa Shandley (@lisa.shandley.md) of @inviafertility @first.fertility, who supported this episode, who helps share why some people have an unexpected secondary infertility diagnosis, and how her perspective changed when she herself was a fertility treatment patient.

Watch excerpts of Demi and Dr Shandley now by swiping here and/or listen to the new episode of the Pregnantish Podcast wherever you get your podcasts or clicking in our stories. By now many of you have seen the headlines that Hilary Swank, who had her twins at 48, is expecting again at 52 years old.

In the past, she’s shared that she underwent IVF with eggs that she had frozen at 37. (She may or may not have used these eggs - and that’s none of our business.)

Whether we like it or not, celebrities influence public opinion. Do you think it’s helpful to proudly show that we can have babies past 45 and/or do you think this annoucement of pregnancy in your 50s spreads misconceptions?

She does have a point here on Drew’s show….

I now know that you can love someone you’ve never met. So many here do 🧡 Tonight at 7 pm ET is the Wave of Light where many will light candles in honor of the babies who aren’t earth side, but who are very much in their heart 💕 #infertilitylookslike #1in4 #miscarriage #miscarriageawareness #waveoflight by @pregnantish

Andrea here 🧡

A personal story and an exercise you may also find cathartic as we prepare for tomorrow night’s “Wave of Light” on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, in which people around the world will light candles at 7 pm (in their local time) in honor of the babies loved who aren’t earth side….

I’ve never been able to carry a pregnancy to term. Every October as I feel the season changing, I think of how it felt the first time I was pregnant. This was after 3 years of trying and I couldn’t believe that I finally got pregnant on my 3rd IUI. I was over the moon. For a brief moment, I felt “normal”. I happily told people everywhere that I was pregnant and I spoke to that baby every night. She would’ve been 12 years old this spring…

In year 6 of trying to conceive, a friend suggested that I light a candle for every baby I thought I’d meet through the many years and years of trying and treatments. I had experienced miscarriages and countless failed embryo transfers (which definitely feels like a loss, as many of you know) and I filled the room with candles. I cried for hours looking at all the light in the room representing all the babies I thought I’d meet. There was so much light. It was sad and beautiful.

And that’s the thing about grief. Light can come in in our darkest moments and acknowledging our pain and loss is a critical part of healing. For me, and maybe for you, lighting candles in honor of the babies we miss is a ritual that has helped me.

The big misconception once you have a living child is that you don’t think of or miss the babies from the past that you had love for. Many of you understand this, I imagine.

Sending love and light to you not only this week of remembrance but always as so many here remember precious babies not in our arms… but definitely in our hearts ❤️🧡

Even a life that looks charmed from the outside isn’t spared from this pain. Loss can come suddenly, even after a visit where everything seemed fine... (We know so many here can relate.)

Beyonce experienced a devastating loss before she met her first child, Blue Ivy, and admits that it inspired her writing her saddest song.

Whether your loss was recent or years ago, we know how deep this grief can be 🧡

This week’s Question of the Week touches on 2 experiences so many here know: the frustration of a thin lining and the emotional process of deciding when it may be time to consider a different path to parenthood.

Have you struggled with thin lining or had cycles canceled because of it? What has helped? And/Or have you reached a point where you decided to explore a gestational carrier/surrogacy after repeated challenges?

Thanks, always, for sharing great advice, stories and for your support 🧡

What if “unexplained infertility” had an explanation you hadn’t found yet?

At 33, Rachel @fertilyfe learned she was a carrier for Fragile X and PKU—information that changed the course of her fertility journey.

What followed was seven years of genetic counseling, IVF, miscarriage, failed transfers, surrogacy, and, finally: parenthood.

Her essay is a powerful reminder that while answers can be complicated, having the right information is often better than ‘unexplained’. And as Rachel’s dad reminded her, “If you want to be a parent - you’ll be a parent.”

Read Rachel’s story now on pregnantish by following the link in bio.
