We are pleased to present: APRE Curatorial Symposium 2026

Front Matter | Edition 01 | 2026
An initiative of APRE Art House
22nd- 24th Oct.

Ed. 01 Conceptualised & facilitated by Dastāvez Collective
‘Maps and Mirrors: Index to Curation’

The inaugural edition brings together 12 curators from across India and internationally for a programme of individual sessions and daily panel discussions. The symposium reconsiders the frameworks through which exhibitions are conceived, knowledge is produced and cultural narratives are shaped.

For this edition, APRE Art House has invited Dastāvez Collective to develop the conceptual framework.

Over the past several years, APRE has been building a growing ecosystem for curatorial practice in India. From our curatorial learning programme, Fellowship, to the APRE Curatorial Index of India, we have been developing platforms that support curators, strengthen professional networks and contribute to the wider cultural infrastructure. taken in APRE Art House by @prernasmjain

APRE Art House is pleased to announce ‘Writing the Aftermath: Memory, Violence, and Resistance’- a reading and conversation with Meena Kandasamy, held in conjunction with Apparitions, an exhibition bringing together artists from India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan whose practices engage with conflict and its afterlives across personal, political, and material registers.

Wednesday, 27 May · 3:30 PM IST . Online

Described by The Independent as a ‘one-woman, agit-prop literary-political movement’, Meena Kandasamy is a poet, novelist, translator, and anti-caste activist whose writing, over two decades, has addressed state and structural violence and the militant resistance against caste, gender, and ethnic oppression.

She is the author of three poetry collections and three novels, including the Women’s Prize-shortlisted ‘When I Hit You’ (2017). In 2022, she was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and awarded the PEN Hermann Kesten Prize. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages.

APRE Art House presents WARC+, a six–eight month fellowship for critical and curatorial writing on women and women-identifying artists, generously funded & supported by Art Curio Foundation.

WARC+ supports emerging curators, writers, and researchers to undertake in-depth scholarship on an artist of their choice whose practice has been overlooked, under-documented, or insufficiently theorised. The fellowship centres long-form writing, mentorship, and publication as forms of feminist knowledge production and cultural preservation.

Applications are now open.
Deadline to apply: 1st April, 2026 by @prernasmjain

Sharing a few glimpses from a documentary I shot & Directed between 2015–2017, when I was still in college. The film has since been archived.

I was much younger then, with no production funds, very little technical knowledge, and a lot of conviction. I remember asking a friend to teach me how to use a camera, and slowly finding my way from there.

What began as an impulse turned into a journey shaped by generosity. I reached out to journalists to better understand the context, and eventually found a cinematographer (Sajad) who was willing to take a leap of faith with me. Armed with just two cameras, a borrowed motorbike, and shared passenger cars, we filmed with almost no budget but complete commitment.

Our editor, Jaggy, showed extraordinary patience and trust working on the film over the course of a year, charging only a token amount. That belief meant everything at the time. For a brief period, we also put together a small crowdfunding pitch using a few stills from the film and background music from Haider, simply to keep the project moving forward.

At its core, the documentary was never about positions or arguments, but about people and the lives they were living within a larger, complicated moment. The film has since been archived, and the political situation today is different than it was during those years. What stays with me are the encounters, the learning, and the quiet responsibility of having borne witness. I look back on this time with deep fondness and gratitude. by @prernasmjain

Favourite little moments with my Niece Aeva. It’s been such a privilege watching her grow and somehow she’s already “reading” A Room of One’s Own! Still not sure how that happened, but I love it. Watching her explore art and her little questions always makes my day. by @prernasmjain
