It’s been a loooooong while since I have introduced myself. 👋🏻 I’m the face behind PRESCHOOL SOS 🆘.

My name is Holley and I am here to help 🛟you teach preschoolers!

I’ve been there. I understand the struggles 😞 and triumphs 🙌🏻 of teaching. Early in my career, I wished I had someone who would have shown me the ropes 🛟 and give me all the tips and tricks for survival in the classroom.

That’s why I started Preschool SOS 🆘.

If you need a seasoned teacher bestie (who’s seen A LOT of Mondays🤪) to help you along the way in your teacher journey, then stick around!

👉🏻More than any of these, what truly captures my heart ❤️ is teaching children that they are loved.

👉🏻It is my most favorite thing to teach them that no matter how high or how low or how deep or how wide-nothing can separate us from the love of God.

👉🏻Helping preschoolers learn how to be kind and to shine their light ✨for Jesus is the greatest thing about teaching.

No matter what time of year 🗓️ it is, teachers and parents need simple reminders of how to help preschoolers with their emotions!

This time each year, it seems like kids have forgotten a lot of the foundations that have been set and practiced🤪.

As a decades long teacher, I can say that Spring Fever is a real thing! Kids get restless and cranky. A few hours outside ☀️in the spring air does wonders, but if that’s not possible, try these proven steps.

There is a lot of information on the behavior of children. This is just a brief overview on what works on the majority of kids (and adults 😉).

A - ACKNOWLEDGE- Just like you want your feelings validated, so do kids. “I see you kicking your feet and hear you screaming because your blocks fell down. I bet that makes you feel frustrated.”

B - BREATHE - Helping kids breathe deeply resets their brain chemistry, and allows them to calm down. “Let’s pretend to smell a flower. Breathe in. Blow the dandelion seeds all around the room. Breathe out.” Repeat.

C - CONNECT - Most kids will calm down when they feel safe and loved. Here is what I tell my students, “I will always love you. There is nothing you can do to ever make me stop.” I whisper it as many times in their ear until they begin to calm. Usually, it ends in a hug.

D- DIRECT - This is the last step. If you want to direct them to change, they need to know you care. BEFORE YOU DIRECT➡️ CONNECT! They can’t process how to correct behavior until that happens and they are calm. “Now that you are calm, do you want to try building again or clean up and try something else? Remember, if you get frustrated ✋🏼 stop- breathe 🫁- and think 🧠 before you act. Is there anyone you need to apologize to?”

Emotions are real. Kids don’t need a lecture. They need help. Try this and see if it works your preschoolers!

I am floored and humbled at so many requests for another preschool FALL Fingerplay! 🦇So here is my 5 Little Bats Fingerplay. Thank you for all of the love and support🥹!!!

I like to talk about FOREST ANIMALS during the Fall, and this fingerplay 🎶 combines literacy elements, science, and math!

Here are some science facts from the song:
🦇Bats are nocturnal and fly at night🌖 and sleep during the day☀️
🦇Some bats eat bugs up to 6000-8000 a night!😮
🦇Mama bats wrap their babies in their wings and hold them close to sleep
🦇Bats use echos to find food in the dark. They send out sound waves and listen for its bounce and return location. It’s called echolocation.
🦇Bats hang upside down to sleep.

🕷️🕸️ It’s Spider Season! And in Tennessee, we’re seeing some SERIOUS spider webs right now! 😳 The first and last photos are actually from my yard!

October is the perfect time to bring spider-themed preschool activities into your classroom! 🕷️ These fun fine motor activities for preschoolers use simple items you probably already have in your classroom—plus a couple of my favorite spider activities from my TPT store!

Happy October and Hello 👋🏼 Saturday 🙌🏻!! 🍁🍂

I had this post to send on Friday (cause I was too busy Thursday ) and then the whole TPT “pick your poison email🤪” came, and I spent the whole day doom scrolling what to do if I can’t sell on TPT anymore.

🍁 So many of you loved the Fall Leaf Song, so try this fun follow-up craft! It’s a cute keepsake AND gives preschoolers a chance to practice breath control!

🍁 “Leaves Are Falling” is my go-to fall song! Your preschoolers will beg to sing it over and over again! 🎶🍂

Then turn the song into a hands-on fall leaf craft! Let kids cut or tear tissue paper leaves, and glue their picture inside the cup. (⚠️An adult needs to manage the hot glue gun)

🍁🎵This is my go-to song for the first week of FALL that your preschoolers will beg to sing again and again!

Preschoolers LOVE this, especially when you can spread it out all over your classroom!!!🍁🪾

We sing it at circle time as I toss the leaves 🍁 everywhere, and then they go and gather the leaves and put them on their matching colored paper.

Or turn it into a race with teams. Assign each team a color and have them race to gather their pile of leaves first.

Using apples to teach preschoolers to be sweet and have kind hearts 😊❤️ is not as complicated as it sounds.

UNPOPULAR OPINION- I know Object Lessons can be complicated with preschoolers. Developmentally, they have trouble seeing beyond themselves. I still teach Object Lessons anyway. More times than not, they understand the lesson since it is linked to something familiar in their environment!

I have had many preschoolers remind each other that “it is what’s inside that matters”, and that “they need to be sweet to each other”.

Lesson learned!🍎🍏😊

These pool noodle apples 🍎 🍏 are super easy to make, and so cute to decorate your classroom or home!

This preschool craft works on fine motor skills, following directions, and yet still give them a chance to show their individual preferences by choosing colors or styles.

When kids see their hard work proudly displayed, it gives them confidence to keep trying new things.

🏡Who lives in my house? 🤷‍♀️ This preschool craft is perfect for an ALL ABOUT ME theme or a FRIENDS and FAMILY theme, where preschoolers can learn about each other’s families!

VARIATIONS:
🏡 Provide paper shapes for younger preschoolers to glue on doors and windows

🏡Provide stickers for flowers

🏡 Older kids can color and decorate the house

🏡 Print copies of student’s families (with permission) to make stick figures, or have kids draw circle faces and glue them on sticks

🏡Practice counting how many people live in the house together

🏡For a Faith based connection, print and attach the Bible verse “As for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” -Joshua 24:15 ICB

✅Share with another preschool teacher who would use this idea!

🥺Follow the easy script to help with BIG feelings when preschoolers head back to school.

Help preschoolers know that it’s ok to feel scared. They are probably not the only ones! Helping them realize that they are not alone and that there is always someone who is there to listen when they do feel scared, is what this lesson is all about.
