Happy Birthday to our dear friend and Musical Director Wendell Brunious! As Wendell undergoes treatment for cancer, we're asking our community to come together and show him love. In addition to the Foundation's ongoing support, a GoFundMe has been set up to help with his medical expenses, and we encourage anyone who can to make a donation and support Wendell ❤️ Today, we're looking back at a special moment from 2020 when he was inducted into the Preservation Hall Foundation's Legacy Program. Wendell has given so much to the music and people of New Orleans over the years, and has dedicated his life to sharing and preserving the musical traditions of our city. Please join us in wishing Wendell a very happy birthday! You can support his GoFundMe through the link in our bio. by @preshallfoundation

Our stories connect us to the places we call home. Join us on October 8 for the final workshop in our ask me to remember community archiving series. We’ll be talking about how to protect and preserve your physical memories–from photos to recipe cards–in the face of climate change. Bring personal photos, documents or keepsakes, and get practical tips and guidance for preserving them in New Orleans and our environment. We’ll also have archiving kits and guidance on tools and techniques for preserving your memories digitally. RSVP at the link in our bio. #LedeNewOrleans #AskMeToRemember #NewOrleans by @preshallfoundation

All of us here at Preservation Hall are deeply saddened by the passing of long time bassist Mitchell Player. Mitchell was loved by all. He was the consummate musician and band mate. We had this little greating we used to say to one another. I’d ask him how he’s doing and he’d reply, “In time and never a drag!”. It said a lot about his nature. Sweet, kind, generous…. No matter or with whomever he was playing with, he always brought something positive to the band. A certain calm that is a great quality for a bassist whose job it is to support everyone else in the band. We’re all going to miss Mitchel and his quiet charm. -Ben Jaffe by @preshallfoundation

What is impact, and how do we measure it? We’ve been thinking a lot about this at the Preservation Hall Foundation. As we’ve gathered stories and data to share what we’ve accomplished so far this year, one question has stayed with us: What is impact, and how do we measure the impact of this work? Is it the 88% increase in local school visits to Preservation Hall this year? Is it the nearly 6,000 students from across the country who have spent time with Preservation Hall musicians, learning about New Orleans history and culture? Is it the local programming: the Stomp Troopers, LEDE workshops, parades, masterclasses, and partnerships that bring musicians and communities together? Maybe impact is all of these things. But we also know that impact isn’t always something that can be captured in a number. Because while we’re measuring the ways this work reaches students, musicians, and communities, we’re also experiencing its impact ourselves. We are changed by the musicians who share their knowledge with us. By the students who show up curious and leave inspired. We may not always be able to measure that kind of impact. But we feel it every day. Read our 2026 Mid-Year Impact Report to see what we’ve been up to so far this year. 🔗 in bio 📸 by Isabelle Guzman by @preshallfoundation
Good Morning from New Orleans' future! May we greet each day with excitement & curiosity like the bright students of Mary McLeod Bethune ⭐️💭 by @preshallfoundation
A photograph. A handwritten recipe. A family letter. The latest workshop in our *ask me to remember* learning series focused on the basics of physical archiving, giving participants the tools to preserve the objects that carry their families' stories. Each workshop attendee received their own archiving kit to take home and continue the work of building their personal archive. We appreciate everyone who joined us and shared pieces of their personal histories. Special thanks to archivist Felli Maynard for facilitating the learning space and our program partners at Preservation Hall Foundation. The evening was a reminder that preserving history begins at home. 💛 📸 Photos by @vonnieartpro by @preshallfoundation
Who gets to preserve history? On July 24, Lede New Orleans was honored to partner with NAHJ (@officialnahj) and Preservation Hall (@preservationhall) to welcome more than 30 journalists visiting New Orleans for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists conference. Together, we explored how journalism can support communities in documenting, preserving and sharing their own stories. The afternoon included conversations about community archives, oral storytelling at Congo Square, a collaborative memory quilt activity and a performance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The afternoon offered participants a firsthand look at the ways memory, culture and storytelling intersect in New Orleans. Thank you to @officialnahj, @preshallfoundation, @_m.andyy, @photofelli, and everyone who helped make this special afternoon possible. We loved sharing this work with you. 💛 📸 Photos by @vonnieradass & Preservation Hall by @preshallfoundation
