Every year, members of the worldwide Sierra Leonean Krio diaspora get together for a weekend of fellowship and fun! I’m soooo proud of my mom and the Georgia Krio Descendants chapter for their hard work in planning and hosting this year’s gathering.

From games and trivia to dɛbuls to plasas to the awujo and the reading of the kola nuts — it was so amazing to celebrate my culture and learn more about my parents’ home, Mama Salone. 🇸🇱💕

i’m about to get a side gig as a dancing dɛbul cause they were throwing BIG BILLS

a kola nut reading — good fortune ahead!

@shop.afrm really came through for my gala dress

a traditional print dress

aunties galore in traditional garb

dɛbuls used to lowkey scare me when i was little but now i am STRONG and BRAVE💪🏾

adorable face and a beautiful dress? oh she really thinks she’s me…

i was kinda like “damn she’s light as hell” to the doll at the back but you know the Krios are a MIX of ppl (think creole)

this night was so fun and i learned so much about sierra leonean history, culture, and the krio language! & it’s nice to meet other people who grew up similarly to you

next year, southern california!! save the date! taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @prettycritical_

ok so pretend i posted these 3 and a half months ago🙏🏾

💜nyu was the only business school i applied to because i knew in my heart that this was the journey i wanted to take (also i’m reckless).

a few months later, i was in the hamptons with hundreds of my soon-to-be friends and i was sure i’d made the right call. 3 months after that, i was like, what the HELL am i doing here??

but time marches on and 2 years (+ 3.5 months lol) later, i’m so glad i was stubborn and delusional enough to put all my eggs in the nyu basket. i made priceless friends and memories, learned a lil something, and now i’m officially a business b*tch — we love to see it!💜 taken in New York, New York by @prettycritical_
