While visiting #sanmigueldeallende this past winter, I decided to take advantage of my time in this amazing artistic city. I signed up for an #acrylicpainting class at @instituto.allende with Maestro Palomares @axelpal_art I learned so much and am forever grateful for the opportunity.

Three cats. The first one I painted over the second one. The black cat is a larger painting and is on display in the Juried Art Show at Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts.

Here we go. When my mother passed away and I was clearing out her dressers I found some old greeting cards from when I was born. There was one that mentioned that my parents had been hoping for a boy. Well that’s what this painting is called, “I’m Not a Boy” Too bad so sad. It explains a lot. Anyway, all worked out in a mixed media painting. It looks kind of sweet right? 24”x24” acrylic and mixed media on canvas

I’ve been having fun with these mini watercolour paintings and experimenting with ideas and characters. They just seem to flow out and onto the page. I find them relaxing and joyful to create.

This is my entry now showing at Threads of Imagination @bmfafoundationarts. It was so much fun to create with inspiration from @sonyasatveitstudios at her Denim Revival workshop. Thanks Sonya!

Here you have it! “Over the Americas” 1.0 is the spotted cat and 2.0 is the black cat. That officially concludes these dream time paintings. Time to move on to another idea I have been thinking about. I’ve officially dubbed this year my “Magical Mystery Tour” and all the art I create this year will be magical or mysterious. I have finally realized that all my previous work,(before Instagram posting) kind falls into that category. It exists in sketch form and I’m ready to bring them to life in painted form. The black cat is 20”x 24” on canvas and the spotted cat is 10” x 10” on panel, both are painted with oil. #dreamtime #magicalmysterytour #beingme #whimsicalart #naiveart taken in Planet Earth by @prettyriverstudio

This is an acrylic and mixed media painting on canvas that I created late last year. It is in response to a significant summer I had as teen. Funny how these things can pop up after all these years.

This is a painting I completed some years ago. Maybe around 2000-2005. I have no date on it. It’s oil on canvas. I miss painting directly onto the canvas with no plan or preliminary sketch. I think I will go back to that as it is more exciting for me to paint that way. When I plan too much the process loses energy and I find it difficult to complete a piece. The bird on the left is a recurring theme that has been in a lot of my past work. #artfromtheheart #intuitiveart #spiritpaintings #artflashback #feelingblue taken in Canada by @prettyriverstudio

I created this 10”x10” oil painting from my imagination. It is based on a dream I had while in Mexico. I have amazing dreams when I’m there!
I’m currently working another larger rendition of the same subject. It’s just one of those dreams that you think about for a long time. I can’t wait to go back to Mexico! #sanmigueldeallende #jaguarart #dreamart #catart #puertovallarta Jaguar art, cat art, oil painting, new artist, new art, animal art taken in Collingwood, Ontario by @prettyriverstudio

Revisiting this is a whimsical painting I created a couple of years ago signifying my move from the “Big Smoke” (Toronto) to Collingwood. I have never looked back or regretted the move. So happy and content in CWood! Are you happy to be in Collingwood? Let me know what you love about it in the comments. #collingwood #collingwoodart #collingwooddowntown #collingwoodartist #changes.
