Chris takes the stage today at the Australian Athletics Coaches Conference to break down the science and practical application of Flywheel Resistance Training (FRT) for athletic performance!
Whether you coach sprinters, distance runners, or multi-directional sport athletes, flywheel technology provides a dynamic, gravity-independent stimulus that traditional weight training cannot replicate.

Here is a quick breakdown of what Chris is covering in today’s session:
Ballistic Force Profiles & Eccentric Overload Unlike standard weights, flywheel systems utilize rotational inertia (I = m \cdot r^2) to store kinetic energy during concentric acceleration and return it as intense eccentric overload—simulating dynamic force profiles without high joint impacts.
📊 Proven Transfers to Running Performance Learn how flywheel loading directly enhances performance on the track, backed by research showing gains in running economy, jumping power, sprint capabilities, and overall endurance.
🛑 Deceleration, Braking & Injury Resilience Rapid horizontal deceleration requires absorbing extreme braking forces. Chris will highlight strategies for leveraging eccentric loading to build muscular stiffness and protect against hamstring strains, Achilles issues, and joint overload.
🔄 Autoregulation & Safe Loading Mechanics Because resistance dynamically auto-adjusts to match output on every single rep, athletes avoid traditional “sticking regions” and fatigue safely. Harness options also unload the spine, making high-intensity strength work accessible for athletes of all levels.
🏟️ Trackside Portability & High-Density Training Discover how portable, lightweight flywheel platforms let coaches deliver high-density strength, post-activation potentiation (PAP), and in-season maintenance directly on the track or field.

If you’re attending today, or would like Chris to attend your conference or organisation for a Flywheel workshop make sure to with Chris afterward to discuss bringing research-backed flywheel protocols to your athletes! 🙌

The Exxentric Flywheel system makes up one of the key components of training at PrimalThenics. 🦍
.
There are few people in the world that know this piece of equipment better than Chris - and in this video he is sharing a valuable morsel of his knowledge with his trainers, who are then able to pass it on to you - our awesome members.
.
By allowing increased load through the eccentric phase of the movement, scaled by your own effort, flywheels like this are an incredibly efficient way to build protective muscle. 💪🏼

☀️ Last week Chris had the fantastic opportunity to run an in house workshop at the Gold Coast Suns.
⚙️The Exxentric flywheel is an absolute must for professional sporting teams. Its ability to traverse the domains of rehab and high performance are a unique benefit not available with other equipment.
💪🏼As one of only a limited few Master trainers in the world, Chris offers an exceptional opportunity for local sporting teams and professional gyms to enhance their athletic offerings.
Additionally, PrimalThenics are the only licensed distributors and Fywheel educators in Australia and NZ. by @primalthenics

⚙️kPulley upper body workout

4 rounds

1 x L wheel: Maltese Flyes x 12
1 x M wheel: Single arm Lat. Row. X 12 e/arm
1 x L wheel: Hinge with lats. X 15
1 x M wheel: Reverse Flyes x 15

One piece of kit - one efficient and effective upper body workout.
The eccentric overload demonstrated here by Chris is one of the most effective stimuli for muscle growth and tendon strength - constant load through the entire range of motion with no dead spots - meaning faster workouts with phenomenal results. 🔥

* It’s not always just about the workout *
💪🏼Matt and Josh have been mates for years - and every Monday they’re at Primal Warrior together, rain, hail or shine.
It’s not just about the workout, it’s about the mate who motivates the next rep - even at 5:45am.
Solid workout with equally solid banter.

Every workout. Every set. Every rep. 🏊‍♂️🔥

Our elite youth swimmers are locked in on the road to Nationals, and the flywheel is a big part of how they’re getting ready.

Why flywheels? 👇

⚙️ Resistance that matches effort. The harder they pull, the more resistance they feel. Every rep is a max-intent rep, with no weight stack to hide behind.

🔁 Eccentric overload. As the flywheel recoils, athletes have to brake and control it. That builds strength and control through the full range of motion, which supports the shoulders and joints that take a beating in the pool.

🏊 Swim-specific training. Pulling patterns, core stability, and powerful hip and shoulder drive can all be trained in ways that carry over to the water.

⏱️ Efficient and scalable. Big training stimulus in a small footprint, with intensity easily adjusted for each athlete.

Strong, resilient, and powerful swimmers aren’t built by accident. They’re built one rep at a time. 💪 taken in Newmarket Pool by @primalthenics
