Chris takes the stage today at the Australian Athletics Coaches Conference to break down the science and practical application of Flywheel Resistance Training (FRT) for athletic performance! Whether you coach sprinters, distance runners, or multi-directional sport athletes, flywheel technology provides a dynamic, gravity-independent stimulus that traditional weight training cannot replicate. Here is a quick breakdown of what Chris is covering in today’s session: Ballistic Force Profiles & Eccentric Overload Unlike standard weights, flywheel systems utilize rotational inertia (I = m \cdot r^2) to store kinetic energy during concentric acceleration and return it as intense eccentric overload—simulating dynamic force profiles without high joint impacts. 📊 Proven Transfers to Running Performance Learn how flywheel loading directly enhances performance on the track, backed by research showing gains in running economy, jumping power, sprint capabilities, and overall endurance. 🛑 Deceleration, Braking & Injury Resilience Rapid horizontal deceleration requires absorbing extreme braking forces. Chris will highlight strategies for leveraging eccentric loading to build muscular stiffness and protect against hamstring strains, Achilles issues, and joint overload. 🔄 Autoregulation & Safe Loading Mechanics Because resistance dynamically auto-adjusts to match output on every single rep, athletes avoid traditional “sticking regions” and fatigue safely. Harness options also unload the spine, making high-intensity strength work accessible for athletes of all levels. 🏟️ Trackside Portability & High-Density Training Discover how portable, lightweight flywheel platforms let coaches deliver high-density strength, post-activation potentiation (PAP), and in-season maintenance directly on the track or field. If you’re attending today, or would like Chris to attend your conference or organisation for a Flywheel workshop make sure to with Chris afterward to discuss bringing research-backed flywheel protocols to your athletes! 🙌 #Athletics #StrengthAndConditioning #FlywheelTraining #TrackAndField #CoachingConference EccentricOverload RunningPerformance SportScience

The Exxentric Flywheel system makes up one of the key components of training at PrimalThenics. 🦍 . There are few people in the world that know this piece of equipment better than Chris - and in this video he is sharing a valuable morsel of his knowledge with his trainers, who are then able to pass it on to you - our awesome members. . By allowing increased load through the eccentric phase of the movement, scaled by your own effort, flywheels like this are an incredibly efficient way to build protective muscle. 💪🏼 . Come and feel the difference for yourself by chatting to our team today.

☀️ Last week Chris had the fantastic opportunity to run an in house workshop at the Gold Coast Suns. ⚙️The Exxentric flywheel is an absolute must for professional sporting teams. Its ability to traverse the domains of rehab and high performance are a unique benefit not available with other equipment. 💪🏼As one of only a limited few Master trainers in the world, Chris offers an exceptional opportunity for local sporting teams and professional gyms to enhance their athletic offerings. Additionally, PrimalThenics are the only licensed distributors and Fywheel educators in Australia and NZ.

⚙️Flywheel training = embrace the resistance. -Unlike traditional weights, flywheels create variable resistance through inertia — the force you get out is directly proportional to the effort you put in. No sticking points, no dead zones, just constant tension through the entire rep. And as you can see - it cooks your muscles in the best possible way. In this clip: split squats on the K-Box, targeting unilateral strength, hip stability, and eccentric control - the exact loading pattern that builds resilient knees and reduces injury risk. Why we love it: Safe - self-regulating resistance means the load never exceeds what your body generates. No spotter needed, no risk of getting crushed under a bar. • Effective - the eccentric overload (that controlled “braking” phase) is where real strength and muscle adaptation happens — something traditional weights can’t replicate. Efficient - full mind-muscle engagement rep after rep, working stabilizers most machines ignore. This is smart training - a device that works with your body, not against your joints. • Come feel the difference at PrimalThenics.

Recovery doesn’t mean sitting out. 💪 4 members grinding on the assault bikes, Ros putting in work on the ski erg as she bounces back from knee surgery — same energy, different lane. This is exactly why we love EMS training: it activates and strengthens muscle no matter where you are in your fitness journey — whether you’re pushing max effort or working your way back from an injury. The electrical stimulation helps maintain and rebuild muscle engagement even when mobility is limited, so recovery becomes part of the progress, not a pause from it. 🔥

We work with a lot of swimmers @primalthenics and one of our members is gearing up for the Invictus games. Here's some rehab/prehab we went through to loosen up the shoulders and get some of the weaker muscles pulling there weight. RELEASE Pecs, Lats and Suboccipitals STRETCH Pecs, Lats, abs and the upper traps/sub occipitals ACTIVATE Shoulder stabilisers like serratus anterior and Lower traps, deep neck flexors and cervical extensors. Some fancy words there, but overall we reduced tension in front line and brought some intention into the muscles that support the neck and shoulders, allowing them to distribute load/tension more evenly and work as a team. Although this was accentuated by increased swimming, if you work at a desk or sit/screen often throughout the day you'll likely benefit from this little sequence🤙 #correctiveexercise, #swimaustralia , #chekinstitute

🏊‍♀️ Our young Lilla recently broke the Jnr Pan Pacs 100m breaststroke record and came away as female swimmer of the meet with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. One of her great attributes as a breaststroker is how much water she can hold in her pull. 🥇 How do you build a more explosive breaststroke pull without adding heavy barbell loads? 🏊‍♂️🏼⚡ Here is the exact 8-week kinetic progress of a competitive swimmer performing the Exxentric chest press pattern: 📊 May 28 ➡️ July 30 Breakdown: • Average Force: 316 N ➡️ 398 N (+26% gain) • Average Power: 109 W ➡️ 133 W (+22% increase) • Concentric Peak Power: 173 W ➡️ 200 W (+15.6% peak push) • Relative Peak Power: 2.1 W/kg ➡️ 2.4 W/kg • Total Exxentric Score: 423 p ➡️ 596 p (+40.9% overall output) 🏊‍♀️ Why this transfers to the pool: In breaststroke, force production during the upper-body pull and chest press pattern directly determines how much water an athlete can move. Because Exxentric devices use isoinertial variable resistance, the load dynamically adjusts to the athlete’s maximal force through the entire range of motion. As neural adaptation and rate of force development (RFD) improve, the athlete accelerates the flywheel faster, resulting in greater force and higher kinetic energy output. More kinetic force in the gym = a stronger, more explosive press through the water. 💪🏼 Data doesn’t lie. Smart kinetic training leads to faster split times. If you want to be a better swimmer, athlete or general weekend warrior, Flywheels are the way to go. Come join us at PrimalThenics as the leaders of Flywheels in Australia or enquire as to how you can get your own!
