POSTS STORIES REELS

So honored to be recognized and considered a Woman of the Future of Southeast Asia for my work as a Content Creator and Founder of @selarati, being a cultural bridge for the Khmer diaspora and creating experiences for Koun Khmer to reconnect with our motherland of Cambodia, in community 🇰🇭

Just 5 women across Southeast Asia were shortlisted for the @womenoffuture Media & Communications category, and I was one of them, representing Cambodia🥹

Beyond this individual honor, I’m so proud of my country and people🇰🇭

Of all Southeast Asian countries, Cambodia had the highest number of women shortlisted across the different award categories, ranging from Business, ESG/Sustainability, Science, Tech & Digital to Media, Arts & Culture, Sport, Community Service and more.

Our country is full of trailblazing women driving unique positive change in various areas, and this year 14 Cambodian women, including myself, have become finalists in their respective fields.

To think about how much we’ve grown and risen from the ashes of our painful history. Forever proud to be Khmer🇰🇭

Next month, I’ll travel to Singapore to attend the Awards Gala to find out the results! (It’s giving Oscars moment✨🥹)

Either way, it’s an honor to be nominated and an honor to be a finalist.

Thank you to my fiancé @joeyra for nominating me.
Thank you to those who recommended me.
Thank you to all of you who have supported me in my entire journey.

ស្រឡាញ់បងប្អូនទាំងអស់គ្នា❤️

This trip was never just about seeing Cambodia.

It was about Koun Khmer reconnecting with our culture on a deeper level.

Learning, living, asking questions, and finally understanding our traditions without the language barrier or the pressure to already know.

This is what A Koun Khmer Homecoming Experience (AKKHE) is really about.

If this resonates with you, stay with me and follow along @selarati. There is so much more from this journey coming, including full vlogs where I share this experience more deeply🤍

This is what I mean by “on a journey of learning, reconnecting, and healing in the motherland.”

I wish I could say that the reason I was able to become this fluent in Khmer in such a short amount of time was simply because I love my culture and community and was extremely determined. But I’d be lying if I said that was the only thing that motivated me. The truth is, my pain, insecurity, and ego were what pushed me to keep going and make it this far. There were so many times I felt beaten down, discouraged, alone, and wanted to give up and go back home. The reason I didn’t was because I knew I would never forgive myself if I didn’t achieve my goal. I was so hard on myself. Too hard on myself if I’m being honest.

I’m sharing this because so many people are always so impressed with how quickly I learned Khmer when I didn’t grow up speaking it, and while I appreciate the praise, I just hope that this can bring anyone who has ever felt discouraged for not being able to speak or understand Khmer a sense of comfort in knowing that it wasn’t easy for me, and it’s okay that it isn’t easy for you. Give yourself some grace.

It doesn’t matter if you can speak Khmer or know how to dance classical Khmer Robam or cook somlaw machu krueng. You are koun Khmer no matter what anyone says. 🇰🇭🇺🇸

Observing Pchum Ben in Cambodia, the land our ancestors came from, was extra meaningful for us as Koun Khmer 🕊️

We woke up early to ‘bos bai ben’ at Wat (pagoda) in Battambang and gave offerings to the monks that we prepared ourselves.

What if I told you that your vision board doesn’t have to have a year-end deadline?

I remember creating this vision board back in 2023, pinning all these seemingly far-fetched ideas of things I wanted to do and what I wanted my life to look like.

Tbh, I didn’t think it was realistic to achieve them all within that year, but I figured, if I dream big, even if I don’t fully realize them, I’ll get a lot closer to those dreams than if I dream small.

I didn’t have any clear path on how I would get there. It seemed so far out of reach. I wanted to be a GIRL BOSS CEO, but at the time, I was just starting my first full time job out of college at an NGO here in Cambodia.

I couldn’t imagine having MY OWN TEAM let alone MY OWN OFFICE… but I put those images on there anyway.

And I just kept intentionally working, learning, and growing.

It was only when I recently began noticing that my camera roll was starting to look really familiar… like my 2023 vision board did I have that moment of “wow I made it happen. I brought my vision to life.” 🥹

And now 3 years later, I’m so proud of what I’ve built so far with @selarati and that we now have an office at @factory_phnompenh, THE creative hub in Phnom Penh and my DREAM SPACE🇰🇭

Seriously, if you’re interested in getting an office (they have bigger sizes too) or holding an event at Factory, let me know🫶🏽

That's what FORGE is built for: bringing through a new generation of Cambodian athletes, and bringing hybrid racing to the nation.
