All my life until now, the closest thing I knew to a festival honoring ancestors was Dia de los Muertos 🧡. In October, Cambodia celebrates Pchum Ben. I didn’t grow up in the temple or know what Pchum Ben was until this year, so I have this trip to thank for educating me. My first Pchum Ben was with Selarati’s #AKKHE, and I will be celebrating it every year from now on 🥰🙏🏽🪷 I asked my dad why we didn’t participate in Pchum Ben. He said, “Honestly I didn’t even know what it was.” So who’s the koun Khmer who needs cultural reconnecting now? 🤨 jk love u dad thanks for surviving the Khmer Rouge my queenies I didn’t know what I was doing 😀 but was happy to do it and learn! 😃 (honest zombie mode because we had to be up and ready by 4AM to feed hungry spirits) Kathy + I lighting up. & here’s my Zoe 🥹🪷💗 skirt color palette of dreams 🙂‍↕️✨ skirt color palette of dreams 🙂‍↕️✨ (peep Battambang’s rice field 🌾) bai bat tbou! lol so much laughter in the videos I have from this day. yall wanna see how I place an IV? i have a video of me sticking a flower stem 😏 (it’s bad) (i broke the stem) (much like blowing a vein 😔) still thinking about how Mory’s grandmother helped us out here too 🥺 I was emo this day :) best person to be walking by my side by @selarati
🪷 Sak Yant សាក់យ័ន្ត: A sacred tattoo, traditionally stick-and-poke, originating from the ancient Khmer Empire- modern day Cambodia. 🇰🇭🌺 I’d always wanted tattoos as a way to showcase my art (back when I thought I would design all of my tattoos), and then I wanted them just because I appreciated the art form. Lately though, I’d been feeling like I wanted them removed. Maybe it’s my algorithm of beautiful tattoo-free women or my brief, insecure mentality that I would be more appealing without them. It was a fleeting feeling, especially after learning more about sak yant, its power and depth, and its purely Khmer origin. 🪷 Flowers and incense are presented as offerings. We discussed my intentions, the script and its meaning, chanted a mantra together, and meditated. Then, a final blessing ceremony. My most meaningful and spiritual tattoo. A special thank you to @federation_khmer_sakyantra and Bong Sombat for your patience, kindness, and education. I felt safe and trusted that it was the right place to get it done. 🙏🏽 (and shoutout Anny, Amanda, & Zoe for moral support 😛✨🥰) #AKKHE by @selarati

I ❤️love❤️that everyone has been like… “I’m so happy you get to (insert activity)” when I’m activity-ing… Not “you’re so lucky”… I’ve worked since I was 14 years old and have worked for everything I have. Anyone that knows me, knows I work my azzzz off and I’m so grateful I can now slow down and take in more of what life has to offer🤍 But also holler for your real estate needs bc mama still gotta live 🤣🤣🤣 “Taco Bell” Tiya Nguyen 🌮🔔💜 eXp Realty | Dallas Unlocking DFW Realty Team Email: Tiya@unlocking-dfw.com Phone: 580‑917‑6325 Website: www.unlocking-dfw.com Insta: @unlockingdfw / @taco_bell_tiya #unlockingdfw #dallasrealtor #dfwrealtor by @selarati
