44. Miyan ki Malhar & Bahar - Hindustani ragas Aro: N S m R P n D N S’ Ava: S’ n P m P g m R S I have been doing medleys of Tamil songs in Carnatic ragas (and a few Hindustani ragas popular in Carnatic music), and I thought why not do a reel based on pure Hindustani ragas and include a few of my favourite Hindi songs as well :) Miyan ki malhar (or Malhar) is a Hindustani raga which is close to our Kaanada and also Kapi (just for a Carnatic comparison). Bahar is another ragam which is very familiar to Malhar (both belonging to the Kaafi Thaat), only differentiated by a few phrases, landings and the mood that it sets. Both ragas have been used extensively in Hindi film music and in a few popular Tamil songs as well. All these songs are based off either of the two ragas or have phrasings that resemble these ragas. Though I have learnt Carnatic songs in some Hindustani ragas, I have not actually learnt Hindustani music. So if there’s anything wrong, feel free to let me know 🙃 To all Hindustani peeps out there, which of these songs do you think are Bahar, and which of these are Miyan ki Malhar? Did I miss out any? Songs: 1. Sakal ban (Heeramandi) - Hindi 2. Oru Deivam thantha poove (Kannathil muthamittal) 3. Thillana in Miyan ki Malhar (composed beautifully by @vishnudev.singer Anna) 4. Bole re papihara (Guddi) - Hindi 5. Verses from Hanuman Chalisa 6. The fun part of this whole series was getting to shoot my best friend!🩷 There’s something so nice about working with people you’re comfortable with, where ideas just happen on the spot and they’re happy to let you experiment with your own shots. We ended up trying so many creative things over those two days, and I’m so glad we did! After seeing how much thought, effort and money went into the location and production, it feels really good to see everything come together so beautifully. And the best part? Nothing felt forced. Everything just flowed, and I think that’s what made this whole experience so special! ✨ . #bts #chennai #navaratri #2026 #dance by @prithvi_music

‘Navabhasha’ - Navratri series 2026 - Day 9- Manipravalam Even though not an individual language in itself, Manipravalam combines Sanskrit with South Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. About Manipravalam: Manipravalam (மணிப்பிரவாளம் / മണിപ്രവാളം) is a traditional literary style that beautifully blends Sanskrit with a regional language, particularly Tamil or Malayalam. The word comes from two Sanskrit terms: Mani (மணி) – Ruby Pravalam (பவளம்) – Coral Just as ruby and coral are combined to create a beautiful ornament, Manipravalam combines Sanskrit and regional-language expressions to create an elegant literary form. Manipravalam has a special place in South Indian devotional literature and performing arts. It is found in devotional compositions, poetry and religious commentaries. In Carnatic music, compositions blend Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or other South Indian languages. This composition of Dikshitar combines Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu🙏🏻 Song: Sri Abhayamba Composer: Sri. Muthuswamy Dikshitar Ragam: Sri Talam: Adi Language: Manipravalam Day 9 color: Peacock green We thank you for joining us this Navarathri through Navabasha, as we celebrated the divine Goddess through nine different languages.
