Devi & Mushrooms - As May drew to a close, I found myself surrounded by a heap of nurturing energy, mushrooms (naturally), a protective aura (at a #theyyam), and the silent sounds of the #divine. 🦥These experiences stemmed from encounters with individuals of various tribes, where a common thread emerged—a shared essence of #feminine energy, enduring, gentle, and ancient.🐟
🧿We hear often of the concept of the "divine feminine," familiar with its presence in history, religion, and culture. But what does it truly mean to feel its in our daily lives? Is it just a concept, or can you build it further, to make it your own?👣
In my exploration of the myco-space, I've witnessed myriad expressions of femininity, through all the people in the community, each resonating with relatable threads of my own experience. Perhaps it's this familiarity that draws me closer to this realm, shaping how I also respond now to the world around me. 🐜
What is this paintng all about? It's a question that lingers - much like the lingering scent of mushrooms after a big rain. If i had to put it loosely, through phrases - it is a sense of #maternal embrace, the instinctual urge for #creation, the inevitable cycle of death and decay, imperfect bodies, and the powerful forces of destruction in this world through one big dance. 👹
While we're all on this heavy note of life, I'm wrapping up this rant, and running off to watch the rain, that's pouring into my favourite season of the year. Monsooooonn is here, mushlove, always.❤️

Four years of @nuvedo today. Feels like ten, tbh. But strangely, also feels like that name rolled off my lips just yesterday for the first time. "Nuuuuuu-vaaaid-oooooooo" 👄
"What do you think? Can you say it easily? What does it remind you of?" (A new look at an ancient being, the fungi)

🪞That growing child aside, today also happens to be #Mahashivratri - the night of #Tandava, Shiva’s dance of creation, preservation, and destruction. ✨One grand, ordeal. In work, in religion, in life, in nature: everywhere, large ordeals that we weave, in these cycles. Despite separating them, they always churn into that pattern.
Big, silly, cycles. 🌠
Looking back, these 4 years have been exactly that - first, becoming; then, preserving; then, breaking apart what no longer fits; and now, becoming again. And honestly, seeing that unfold with not just Nuvedo, but who I am, has been humbling. 🍄

Letting go of archaic ideas, breaking down what doesn’t serve, embracing surreal shifts that one can never understand. But rebuilding, with more clarity, care and intention. 🪜

That’s what cycles teach us. That’s what fungi do. That’s what Tandava is. 👯‍♀️
❤️To me, the sweetest dancing, happens on the edge of decay. ☠️

"Enter the mycoverse",🌀 I couldn't find a more fitting first photo exposing this universe of wonder, with caps pirouetting on a vast abyss. ⛵#Fungi, inviting us all, to participate in that #inquiry. To participate in an #interspecies world. 🏳️‍🌈
They play hide and seek, but in reality, they are but a thriving network, ready to be plugged into. 💫
Notice how marasmiellus sp. can take up more space on a single twig, and support a much larger network that your eyes don't reach. 🌬️
In this whole ecosystem, there are no gatekeepers, and there are no barriers to understanding them.
Then, who are we even waiting for? 🤔

Tracing the Hidden Arteries of Lalbagh with @nuvedo

Last week At Lalbagh Botanical Garden, we spent the morning with @prithvikini @indiantoadstool exploring the unseen networks beneath the forest floor, tracing how fungi and mycelium move moisture and nutrients through the soil.

We found old polypores marked by past wet seasons, fresh oyster mushrooms growing on a fallen tree, and delicate Podoscypha emerging from damp leaf litter.

Each discovery offered a glimpse into the garden’s hidden water economy and the stories that fungi can tell about moisture, rain and the seasons.

Shroom Sabha didn’t start three days before the festival. It started six months before.

In this reel, Prithvi and Jashid, co-founders of Nuvedo, unpack what it actually took to bring Shroom Sabha together. People traveled in from Delhi, Bangalore, and states across the country. Ten days of physical setup on the ground, but the real work, sponsors, alignment, logistics, had been going on for six months before anyone touched the farm.

They also walk through the workshops that shaped the weekend, from the Reishi Awakening Ceremony to Primitive Mycology to the water station and curiosity corner, everything that made it into our earlier recap carousel, from the other side of the table.

Mixed emotions putting this one together. Mostly gratitude, for everyone who showed up and everything that somehow came together in time.

🍄Spotting the non-human at @shroomsabha 🍄
funny thing about a festival...so much of it is placed on purpose, unassuming little creatures and signs and textures tucked into corners, and then the whole thing turns feral the second people show up. 🪴
Lights breathe when the artist enters, installations are alive, fungal half-sentient, words that you wish you'd see more often.
🌝You're deep in the thick of it, picking a mushroom, moving fast, and it's only later, camera roll open, that you catch it all again, mycelial, sprouting mid conversation, "hey hope you're having a good time." Right after "hey how was the foray? Lunch, let's go?" Mid photograph, walkie crackling, "PK, come in. PK, come in" - and you fumble for it, half here, half wherever the lens just was. 🦜

Makes you wonder how much of a festival is built, and how much just decides to grow wild on its own when all the elements are synced. 🌧️
Here's my little camera roll dump, all the moments of "in between" 🍄 until the next sabha emerges, my heart as always is full.

🎭What does Devi know about decay? There's a version of this story where she was always here...underground, lurking, learning rot's grammar before anyone thought to call it language. Decay was never an ending, that's the thing. It became a correspondence, exchanged daily, back and forth, between what falls and what returns.

🏵️What does Devi know about decay that we don't? Watching, you start to get it....this mycelial logic, maybe something we've always half-known and never bothered naming. Someone might call it tantric, and I mean that in the real sense: non-duality, dissolution as generative rather than opposed to creation, decay and growth as one current instead of 2 things duking it out. She resists the word anyway, even as her whole body's doing exactly that logic.

🫟What does Devi know about decay? Maybe just this: she keeps spreading, mycelium into mycelium, leaving the question unresolved, underground, still growing.

A collaboration with a favorite, after a long time apart... paused, decayed a little, finally finished.

Who is a wild woman?

A wild woman is a woman whose intelligence still answers to her own rhythm — not the clock, not the calendar, not what's convenient for the room she's in. She feels what she feels when she feels it. She rests when the body says rest, not when the schedule allows it. She says no before it's polite to, and yes before it's safe to.

She was never taught to be this way. She was taught the opposite — to be legible, agreeable, low-maintenance, available. Every system she moved through rewarded the parts of her that were easy to manage and quietly withdrew from the parts that weren't. Over years, that shaped her. Not by force. By repetition. She learned which of her instincts got a good response and which ones didn't, and she kept adjusting until the adjusting became her personality.

The wild woman is what's left underneath that. She didn't arrive from nowhere — she was always there, just edited out of the version of her that performs well. She's not a new self to build. She's an old one to stop overriding.

She isn't chaos. People confuse wild with unpredictable because both refuse to be controlled — but a wildflower isn't lawless, it's just answering to soil and season instead of a gardener's row. The wild woman works the same way. She has laws. They're just hers.

She is vivid, not managed. Diverse, not consistent for consistency's sake. Dynamic, not stable for the comfort of others. And she blooms — on her own time, whether or not anyone was waiting for it.
The question was never whether she exists.

She's still in there, under the domestication, tracking moon and blood and grief and hunger like she always did. The question is whether anyone's still listening to her.

2 monsoons chasing Roen Olmi. Still not sure who's following whom.📖
💗Termitomyces sp., they call it in the science books. Roen Olmi, if you grew up in Goa. An unsure "collaborator", really, tangled into termite mounds, appearing only when the raingods and something unspoken all agree to let you in.

🧿One year of following her far enough and you're suddenly following everything around it. Who forages, who's allowed to. What's remembered, what's already been lost. Who owns the land the mounds sit on. What gets called "wild food," and by whom. Spiritual in some conversations. Political in others. Always social, always someone's story sitting underneath it. 🐲No story is ever just one story. Been taught by this fungus, how to sit with an entangled world and let it stay entangled, instead of flattening it into something simpler than it is 〰️🌊

Fungal Nazar Utaarna🍄🧿A gift of the evil eye, already removed. Call it nazar, drishti, kannu, mati...we know it all too closely. Chillies burnt, salt scattered and let go. Let go let go. Decay has always been one such way....rot as release, rather than ruin. 🧿 Thu thu thuuuuuuu.
This piece takes a different route fungus dried mid-transformation, doesn't vanish the way ash or salt does. It stays, texture intact, holding what it drew in and then digesting it. 🙏
The first in an ongoing series, hopefully, made as offerings, for anyone who needs one. Find me a fungus.👄
