A wildfire being “contained” does not mean it has been extinguished.

If a fire is 25% contained, crews have established barriers around roughly 25% of its perimeter to help stop it from spreading. Even at 100% containment, hot spots can still be burning inside those lines.

Just how big is the Ross Fire? At more than 80,000 acres, it has burned an area more than three times the size of Walt Disney World in Florida, which spans about 25,000 acres.

The fire has spread across rural Jack and Palo Pinto counties, threatening homes and ranches, and forcing evacuations. by @producedbycrystall

Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet in April 2025.

A little more than two months after his sentencing, Anthony’s attorneys are asking for a new trial. In court filings obtained by CBS News Texas on Aug. 20, both the defense and prosecution revealed details about the backgrounds of Anthony and Metcalf that had previously been kept from the jury and the public during the murder trial.

The number one question I always get asked is what I do all day at work… well, here you go!

Granted, no two weeks look the same, and I’d say this past one was pretty tame, with a sprinkle of back to school, breaking news and this god-awful Texas heat. 🥵

Here’s what a “chill” week looks like from my newsroom desk.

My favorite part? #BreakingNews. While breaking news tends not to be good news, scavenging for information, writing breaking scripts and pushing updates to #social is always the most intense and oddly fun part of my day.

And why do I think social first? Because who isn’t doomscrolling on their phone during their lunch break?! Or during all the other times we probably shouldn’t be on our phones… 🧐📱 by @producedbycrystall

Fourteen years after Irasema Chavez was found stabbed to death inside her Arlington apartment, police say advances in forensic technology helped investigators identify a suspect.

Arlington police have charged 42-year-old Mayra Velasquez with capital murder.

Velasquez worked as a realtor and recently started working as a sales rep for a limo company. People CBS News Texas spoke to were shocked when they learned about her arrest.

Find out how Arlington PD cracked the case in our bio.
