Sometimes out of the box thinking leads to art in a box. In this case, an actual 6x7 ft cube. The question was: how can you create images in 15 minutes for worship in a unique way and remain unseen?

It took a team of people to get this art in a box idea to work. Thanks to the Stitch Cue team, NYC, Ian, Lucas, Jerad for letting me try this idea in Time Out at NNU, Carly, the NYC production team, Eric Samuel Timm for thinking through the story and the glue, and so many more.

Huge thanks to Katie Rose and Mateus for writing the lyrics for this new song “Worship in Wonder”: the inspiration behind the images for this piece. It was so much fun to be able to create artwork at Nazarene Youth Conference again. #nycslc26 #vannu taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @profandpainter

Faith Seeking Understanding

This painting is based on our Lent sermon series “faith seeking understanding.” The anchor is a foundation point. It keeps us steady throughout the ups and downs of life. When life gets hard and throws us around like waves in the ocean, we can remember where we are anchored. Instead of being attached to a boat or anything else, this anchor is coming from heaven to show that we can trust in Jesus Christ to keep us firm and steady.

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…” -‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Also, I really like anchors. They look so rad for an object that has such basic purpose: be big, heavy, and hold stuff in place.

Heads up, I’m looking for any excuse to use an anchor in my work. There may be more on the way.

How do you capture the moment when Mary hears from an Angel that she is going to have a baby (that will save the world) through divine conception? What did that conversation feel like? What emotions swept over her? What would her fiancé think? What would everyone else think? Where did she find the courage?

It was a joy to imagine what this might look like for @carlycommunicates sermon at @nampacollegechurch last weekend. Watch and listen to the full message at nampacollegechurch.com and see the other parts of this artwork that help tie in the layers of this passage. by @profandpainter

How do emojis relate to Egypt? How was the letter R formed? When did we start using grids and spacing in book design? How did our tools influence writing and communication? Megg’s History of Graphic Design answers all these questions and more. I first got to read through this book as a student, and now I get to use it as a professor. it’s a wonderfully comprehensive anthology of how our world has been influenced by graphic design. by @profandpainter

🎨 Three lessons I learned during @inktober.

1. Consistency builds skill – The more I drew, the better I got.
2. Creative flow – Even on tough days, drawing kept my ideas flowing.
3. Growth mindset – Embracing imperfection helped me grow, not just as an artist, but as a person.
Drawing every day was a reminder that progress is made in small steps.

What’s one habit you want to build this month?”

@inktober @inktober_2024 recap. To have these drawing prompts was so helpful for me this year. It gave me a concrete idea to draw every day and I learned more about how to use Procreate.
