@resist.riseup.movement PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! Rafael “RC” Concepcion (@aboutrc) shares vigia.co , a website that he’s developed to help immigrants #KnowYourRights. The website offers the following tools to inform immigrants of their rights and allow them to make their own informed choices.
- A community based system of reporting ICE locations by dropping pins on a map.
- Translation from english voice to spanish text for ICE encounters at home,
- A Proof section to allow immigrants to document and share their encounter with ICE.
- An AI based chatbot that uses information from LULAC, the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and other civil rights association to make recommendations.
- A news page.
The site is free to use, does not require a sign in, and does not have to be downloaded from an app store. The goal here is to provide the easiest way for those who need information to get it. And yes some of us are more deeply imperfect than others but the only way to do better is to do. Means get out there and practice! You will fall short. You will be plagued by contradictions. You will work to be more consistent and still find yourself forced to pick the best among a whole bunch of bad choices available to you under late stage capitalism. You will mess up and harm people. My advice from my own imperfect (but improving) activism? Get good at listening before you speak. Learn how to apologize and repair. If you’re feeling activated, get yourself steady before you do anything else. Find people who will hold you lovingly and ruthlessly accountable. But more than anything you just need to do the thing. @coppercourier Rosa Hernandez-Wilcox, a Honduran mother of three, is currently in immigration detention facing deportation without her children, according to 12 News. After arriving in the U.S. seeking asylum, she married Bryan Wilcox, an American firefighter, and settled in Arizona.
During what they believed would be a routine immigration hearing, Rosa was unexpectedly detained by ICE, who cited a previous deportation and illegal reentry as grounds for her removal.
Although her husband has not legally adopted the children, ICE released them into his care. The family is now struggling to understand and navigate the complex immigration system, unsure of whether they will be reunited. @democracynow The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to take up an appeal by Indigenous advocates who are fighting to block the transfer of Oak Flat to Resolution Copper, which wants to turn the site in eastern Arizona, sacred to the San Carlos Apache Nation, into a massive copper mine. The justices left in place a lower court’s decision that will allow the Trump administration to take the land and transfer it to Resolution Copper. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in dissent that it was a “grievous mistake” not to take up the appeal. He wrote, “Recognizing Oak Flat’s significance, the government has long protected both the land and the Apaches’ access to it. No more.
