We’re proud to share that Old Station 22 will now be our labor hall, a firefighter-driven professional development and community resilience center. Like Maynard Jackson, planned and strategized for the future, so have we. By applying the principles we’ve studied from the Black reconstruction era (1865-1877) and the Greenbook(1936-1966), we are just reinventing the wheel.

This has been a long time coming and a vision started by former President Terrance Simon. Today, we honor him as that vision becomes reality through the current leadership.

We also pay homage to the leaders who came before us. Retired Chief Arzell Bostick, the late Cameron Dixon, Retired Captain McWhorter, and the late Fire Chief Hamer. Their work laid the foundation for what we are building today.

To the current / future members and community, Station 22 will be where we meet, train, and grow. In addition to our monthly meetings, We will conduct hands on training, tabletop exercises, and strengthen our skills across acting-OIC, Special Operations, Engine, Truck, and EMS.

This space will enable us to serve the community more effectively. We will organize numerous events that will benefit all districts and communities in Atlanta. Additionally, we aim to create a platform for individuals interested in becoming firefighters to learn and connect.

We give thanks to The Most High God who has allowed this to happen. We also thank the Mayor’s Office, the Fire Chief’s Office, city officials, and the vast amount of supporters across different city departments, the fire department, and the citizens who have stood behind us. We will continue to speak truth to power as we move forward.

We look forward to serving our members and the community. It is our responsibility to develop strong firefighters and take care of the people we serve.

With the help of our members and community partners, we will bring this station back to life and make it our own.
We invite all councilmembers to stand with us and support this vision.

Stay tuned! taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @progressiveffsatl

Congratulations to our members who graduated from EDI this past Friday.

Thank you for taking the time to invest in yourselves, your careers, and the future of the fire service. We know the commitment it takes to complete this program, and we’re proud to see our members continuing to grow as leaders.

As the EDI motto says, “All that I am, I owe. I live eternally in the red.”

May we never forget those who invested in us, and may we continue to pay it forward for those coming behind us.

A pro tip: do not cross the street when emergency vehicles are present. 🤓

Not stopping delays the firefighter’s ability to respond to emergencies quicker. Yielding immediately (whether as a pedestrian at a crosswalk or pulling over in your car) helps in three ways:

✨ Prevents severe accidents
✨ Ensures public safety
✨ Keeps intersections clear so firefighters can get the scene as quickly as possible

I almost lost my marbles today and y’all — I’m a patient person 🙃. What I saw in slow motion before this video was people trying to cross the street, despite the sirens being heard down the street, which is why the fire truck had to honk harder and multiple times to get these pedestrians to stop. The pedestrians were standing in the road as this truck was passing by. 🙈

Every second counts. 💯

Let’s be street smart as the firefighters are working tirelessly to save people’s lives. 🔥

A small glimpse into a four hour shift with Atlanta firefighters from Station 15. 🔥

Did you know that firefighters in Atlanta work 24 hour shifts every 3 days, working a total of 72 hours in a week. Some work overtime, which is what one of the lieutenants was doing in this video. 😱

From three elevator entrapments to phantom false alarms from abandoned businesses without a callback number, we saw firsthand the spontaneity and unpredictability of these calls. Yet, each firefighter was fully ready when those sirens went off to get to work and ensure that every single person stays safe and unharmed, no matter the circumstance. 💯

Thank you to the incredible firefighters at Station 15 for giving us a glimpse inside your world and to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation for giving us this firsthand experience to do a ridealong with some of Atlanta’s bravest! 💪

A historic moment for Atlanta Fire Rescue.

This week, we proudly celebrated the launch of the first-ever AFRD Recruit Housing Program — a meaningful investment in the future of our city’s fire service. This initiative provides housing for 10 active recruits during training, allowing them to live in the communities they are preparing to protect while easing financial pressures along the way.

We were honored to hear remarks from Mayor Andre Dickens, Fire Chief Roderick M. Smith, Councilmember Jason Winston, and AFRF CEO Taos Wynn. We also appreciate the presence and support of Councilmember Wesmoreland. A special thank you to Kathy Waller for her leadership and partnership in helping bring this vision to life.

We would also like to recognize the dedicated NPU leaders who continue to champion community engagement and collaboration: Anne Phillips, Shirley Nichols, and Tarin Love. Their support reflects the power of neighborhood partnership in strengthening our city.

This milestone represents more than a ribbon cutting. It is a commitment to stability, access, and long-term investment in Atlanta’s Bravest.

A proud moment. A powerful impact. And a strong foundation for what comes next. by @progressiveffsatl

Progressive Firefighters of Atlanta and Company 16 came together to donate clothes, shoes, blankets, and other essential items to a local shelter in the community we love and serve.

A special thank you to Mayor Dickens @andreforatlanta for stopping by, showing genuine appreciation, and even donating items himself. We truly appreciate the support!

This is not a one time thing for us. We hope other stations and firefighters will join in and keep this going. Serving the community is part of who we are, not just when we run calls, but every 3rd day and beyond.
