Plot twist: the new horse we just brought home is Apollo’s mom. 😂🐴

2.5 years ago, Apollo was a baby standing right beside Cheyenne.

Fast forward to today… they’re standing nose-to-nose again on our little piece of the mountains.

We definitely didn’t have this reunion on our Project Cowboy bingo card, but here we are. 🤎

And yes, there’s a story behind how we ended up with her… 👀#projectcowboy #horses #momandson #horse #countrylife by @project.cowboy

We’re a family of six who apparently looked at a quiet life and said, “Nah… let’s get some cows.” 😂

Then came the horses.
Then the mini donkeys.
Then more cows.
Then chickens.
Then dogs.
And somehow there are always more animals we’re “just looking at.” 👀

We bought a little piece of the mountains and decided to turn it into the kind of place our kids will remember forever.

There’s a lot of mud, a lot of work, a lot of unfinished projects… and somehow, a whole lot of magic mixed in.

This is Project Cowboy.

Come watch us build the dream, one questionable decision at a time. 😂🤠#projectcowboy taken in Utah by @project.cowboy

Those little horns are starting to show! 👀🤎

Our Watusi bull calf is officially entering his horn-growing era, and we’re pretty excited to watch them take shape. 🐂

And yes—Watusi cattle both males AND females grow horns. Unlike some breeds where horns may be more associated with the bulls, both Watusi cows and bulls are naturally horned.

They can start showing those little horn buds when they’re just a few weeks to a few months old, and then the horns continue growing throughout their lives. And if you’ve ever seen a full-grown Watusi… you know they can get BIG. 😳

And before anyone asks… the big black Longhorn steer hanging out with him is just his buddy. 😂 They’re not related—he’s just decided this little guy is his sidekick.

We can’t wait to see what those horns turn into! 🤠🐂#projectcowboy #farmlife #countrylife #longhornlove #watusi taken in Utah by @project.cowboy

Well… we didn’t quite get our act together before mud season showed up. 😂

We had big plans to get enough projects finished to make this time of year a little less miserable, but apparently the mud wasn’t waiting on us. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Fingers crossed we’re a little more prepared next year. Until then, if you need us, we’ll be over here tracking half the hillside onto the porch. 🤠

Continuous progress is our normal. 🐴🤎

Tell me we aren’t the only ones who enter a new season with last season’s to-do list still unfinished. 😂 taken in Utah, USA by @project.cowboy

One day, we’ll look back and realize we were living in the good old days. 🤎

The horses, the trails, the kids growing up, the life we’re building one muddy, unfinished project at a time.

It’s easy to get caught up in what we still need to do, where we want to be, and how much farther we have to go. But maybe the dream isn’t just the finished property or the life we’re working toward. Maybe it’s this. Right here. Right now.

So we’re trying to slow down, take the long way home, and soak up a little more of the life we’re so busy building.

Because someday, we’re going to miss these days. 🐎🌾

Welcome to Project Cowboy. Where we’re building our dream, raising our kids, and trying not to rush through the good old days while we’re living them.

One day, they won’t ask for tractor rides or beg to go to Grandpa’s house. So for now, we’ll take the long way, roll the windows down, and let them soak it all in. 🤎🚜

We’re not trying to give them a perfect childhood. Just one full of dirt roads, country views, grandparents, and memories that stick long after they’ve grown up.

That’s the kind of life we’re building here at Project Cowboy. 🤎 taken in Utah, USA by @project.cowboy

Not sure I was more impressed he could throw those hay bales like that or that he didn’t need gloves 👀😅 Cowboys are king! My hands hurt just watching! 👑 #projectcowboy #cowboy #hotcowboy #countrylife #longhornlove by @project.cowboy

Paden: “I can manhandle her. She’ll be fine.”
Me: “I really don’t think this is a good idea.” 😂

Well… she proved one of us right and one of us VERY wrong. 🤣

The plan was simple: halter our new heifer and walk her up to the green pasture.

The reality? She had other plans. 🐮💨

And of course Paden had Summit filming the whole thing so he could “send it to Papa and show him we halter trained our new cows.” 😂

Video credit: Summit, who may have just documented evidence against his dad.

I’d say the real lesson here is that we need to start budgeting for a four-wheeler or Ranger. 😂

Obviously fall is a favorite around here 🍁❤️ Especially when the view looks like this from the back of Cheyenne. Wouldn’t trade this life for anything. 🤎#utahfallcolors #utah #horse #lovinglife #cowgirl taken in Utah by @project.cowboy

Oops… should’ve left a little earlier. 😂

Nothing like packing in on horseback with headlamps to make a good idea feel slightly questionable. 🤠#countrylife #horse #packhorse #wildwildwest #oops taken in Kings Peak by @project.cowboy

Once you get a taste of this it’s hard to compete with.

Paden spent his birthday the best way I can imagine — riding horses into the mountains with his dad, his brothers and his best friend, hiking Kings Peak, and ending the day around a fire with the people he loves most.

There’s just something about being that far out, with nowhere to be and nothing to worry about, that makes you realize how little you actually need.

Pretty hard to beat a birthday like this. 🏔️🔥🐎 taken in Kings Peak by @project.cowboy
