STROBE LIGHTNING: Another magnificent show last night northern Utah!

The first video is in slow-mo and shows 11 return strokes on this lightning strike! After the first stroke, the channel is extremely hot and ionized, so it provides a much easier path for subsequent strikes. In this particular case, the cloud’s electrical field might’ve remained strong enough that multiple return strokes could travel the same path several times.

The second video is another sign that these storms had large charge reservoirs and strong updrafts. Strobe lightning that is continuous like this is predominantly “intracloud lightning” and usually accompanies severe warned t-storms… as it certainly was last night.
