More from Milan ☕️

The second Big Brew study tour was as much about the people as it was the places. We had the chance to hear directly from some brilliant businesses across the city, getting an insight into their approach, their stories and what makes Milan’s coffee scene so distinctive.

A huge thank you to @lepolveri , @orsonerocoffee and @mascherpatiramisu for welcoming us, sharing your insight and giving the group such a warm welcome. We loved getting to experience each of these places and learn more about what happens behind the scenes.

And, of course, plenty more coffee, food and good conversations along the way. by @project_waterfall

What a trip!

Last week, 28 people from across the coffee industry joined us in Milan for a Big Brew study tour, bringing together education, great conversations, new connections and fundraising for Project Waterfall.

Over a packed 36 hours, we explored different sides of the Italian coffee industry, learning from the people and businesses shaping it.

A real highlight was our visit to Lavazza, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most iconic names in coffee. We also stepped outside coffee for a visit to Casa Francoli, which was a brilliant opportunity to learn from another industry and experience a different side of Italian hospitality.

Alongside the learning, the trip was about bringing people together, and it was fantastic to see so many conversations, ideas and new connections come out of it. Most importantly, everyone had a brilliant time.

It was wonderful to have the support of Project Waterfall’s trustees in organising and supporting the trip, including Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, Laura Harper-Hinton, kamal bengougam, Jessica Worden and Jeffrey Young. Thank you for all your help in making it happen.

A huge thank you too to our fantastic sponsors who helped make the trip possible:
@beyond.the.bean, Bloomin, @brita.uk @jaguarespresso @lamarzoccouk @minorfigures @ubermilk and @victoriaarduino_uk

Your support helps us raise vital funds for Project Waterfall and our work bringing clean water, sanitation and hygiene to coffee-growing communities around the world. 💧

We’ll be sharing more from the trip soon, including some of the brilliant coffee shops and businesses we visited.

Thank you to everyone who made Milan such a memorable few days! by @project_waterfall

One of the most relevant causes linked directly to coffee is the quality of water, but not everyone has even access to clean water. So Project Waterfall has its vision that “no one lives without access to safe water”.

Please, go to support them and this amazing mission at the Lantern Hall.

Project Waterfall will be hosting a panel discussion at @extractcoffee about “Water in Coffee”, facilitated by @mcolonnadashwood, you would not want to miss it!

Water is at the heart of coffee, from growing the crop to brewing the final cup. 💧☕

For our latest Water in Coffee event on 10th September in Bristol, we’re bringing together voices from across the coffee industry to explore what water stewardship really looks like in practice.

Facilitated by @mcolonnadashwood, the conversation will feature Andy McPhilbin from AQUAPHOR Professional, sharing their perspectives on the role of water, sustainability and collaboration across the coffee supply chain. Hosted at @extractcoffee as part of @bristolcoffeefestival.

Join us as we dig into the challenges, opportunities and practical steps towards a more water-resilient coffee industry.

A day at the roastery ☕️🌱
Last week we had such a brilliant visit to one of our partners, @thecuppingdirectives & @set_waypoint at @plotroasting ! Andrew gave us a tour of the roastery, showed us how to inspect green coffee beans, and then let us have a go at roasting ourselves.
Such a fun and informative day, and a great chance to get hands-on with the coffee journey from green bean to roast.
A huge thank you to @a.j.ws for the lovely hospitality and for sharing your knowledge with us! 🙌 by @project_waterfall

Our Water in Coffee education series is coming to Bristol on September 10th!

Ahead of the @bristolcoffeefestival, we're gathering at @extractcoffee to discuss the invaluable role of water in the coffee supply chain and our responsibility in supporting its sustainable future.

Following a panel sponsored by @aquaphor.professional and moderated by @mcolonnadashwood, Founder of Colonna & Small's and author of The Coffee Dictionary and Water for Coffee, the event will feature an interactive Q&A, a coffee cupping session led by Extract's Head of Coffee, and the opportunity to network with fellow attendees over refreshments kindly provided by Extract Coffee.

Rather than charging for tickets, we're inviting guests to make a donation: just £30 is enough to secure a person with clean, safe water for life.
