🌎 The world’s leading guide to science-based climate solutions.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Some climate solutions are ready to scale today. Some are promising but not yet proven. Others sound exciting in headlines but don’t hold up to the science﹣or carry too many risks ⚠️.

That’s why the Drawdown Explorer exists. It rates solutions across four categories (from Highly Recommended ✅ to Not Recommended ❌) based on thousands of hours of rigorous global scientific analysis.

✨ Explore the solutions, see how they rank, and cut through the noise: https://drawdown.org/explorer

Project Drawdown has always been the world’s leading guide to science-based climate solutions 🌏.

With the new Drawdown Explorer, we’re moving beyond describing solutions → to spotlighting breakthrough strategies for accelerating climate action.

Built on trillions of data points and expert analysis, the Drawdown Explorer is the definitive guide to effective climate action, highlighting:
✨ Emergency brake solutions that can rapidly reduce emissions
✨ Geographic hotspots to maximize impact
✨ Multipliers that simultaneously improve human and environmental well-being

This is the platform the climate movement has been missing. The Drawdown Explorer represents the most powerful platform yet for advancing climate solutions, ensuring that every dollar, every resource, and every moment moves us closer to a world without a climate crisis.

Lots of people are saying climate change, while real, isn’t something worth worrying about anymore. To back it up, many are citing the retirement of the worst-case climate scenario, RCP 8.5.

But what does the retirement of that scenario actually mean? Is climate change still worth worrying about? And if it is, why does it seem like so many people are saying the opposite?

We spoke to climate scientist Dr. Kate Marvel of @projectdrawdown and Philip Newell of Climate Action Against Disinformation (@caadcoalition) to get the answers. Comment “RCP” and I’ll send you the link to the full podcast. by @projectdrawdown

Did you know that only 2% of funding goes to climate, environmental, wildlife, renewable energy, and conservation efforts?

Today on #EarthGives Day, a donation to Project Drawdown brings us ever closer to a day when climate solutions are simply the norm.

Help us realize our shared sustainable future! Project Drawdown is excited to welcome Courtland Kelly, Ph.D.; Anna-Katharina von Krauland, Ph.D.; and Tracey Osborne, Ph.D., as our inaugural cohort of Climate Science Serving America visiting scholars.

We launched the program earlier this year to support world-class scientists and engineers advancing climate solutions in the public good, at a time when federal priorities are shifting, and traditional research funding and institutional support face real challenges.

This new program builds on Project Drawdown’s earlier investments in scientific research, including nearly a dozen staff scientists and other experts, and the global cohort of research fellows helping build the Drawdown Explorer.

Visiting scholars were chosen for the excellence of their research, their focus on climate solutions, and their work in the broader public interest.

Project Drawdown covered a lot of ground this #climateweekNYC

As Elena Essa, Manager, Global Strategic Partnerships, stated: "Events like Climate Week can be go go go and exhausting, but the connections we make are priceless for breaking down silos and finding mutual areas of interest for collaboration."

We were especially proud to launch Drawdown Capital because if there's one thing we know, it's that deploying significant capital toward climate solutions must be led by science. That's where we'll see real impact.

Thank you to all of our partners, supporters, and the incredible team at Project Drawdown who made this happen. 👏

Solving climate change will take all of us working together, whether conservative or liberal, rural or urban, domestic or international.

On October 7th, join Project Drawdown's Todd Reubold for a Drawdown Ignite webinar with @BenjiBacker, founder of the American Conservation Coalition and CEO of @UnitedbyNatureOrg. Benji, named to the @TIME 100 Climate list and @forbesunder30 Under 30, will share his journey from growing up Republican in Wisconsin to championing environmental causes in D.C., and how to advance climate and conservation solutions in a hyper-partisan environment.

We love watching climate action spread around the world! Thanks to the new SHIFT community portal, we have a bird's-eye view of all of your progress. 💚

But the numbers can't tell us everything! We'd love to know:

What has been your favorite part of using SHIFT so far?
If you haven't yet started, what’s holding you back?

Please share SHIFT with a friend interested in taking climate action, and help us reach our goal of 10K actions taken this fall! 🔗 jointheshift.earth

We cannot offset cattle emissions with soil sequestration, no matter the grazing practices.

Cattle continue emitting methane (the superpollutant ruminants belch that’s 80x more potent than carbon dioxide in the near term) as long as they remain on the landscape, regardless of what alternative grazing practices can or can’t do for soil’s capacity to store carbon in the form of soil organic carbon (SOC).

💡 Offsetting current global ruminant emissions through SOC would require storing 135 Gt of carbon, or roughly 495 Gt CO₂ , over 100 years – nearly twice the carbon stock in all managed grasslands. In regions where sequestration would be required, SOC would need to rise by 25% to 2,000%, depending on the region.

Farmed ruminants now exceed 4 billion animals globally (including ~1.5 billion cattle) and are projected to grow, further increasing emissions from livestock - the world’s largest source of human-caused methane.
