As the leaves change color and the air turns crisp, our farms are yielding an abundant harvest for the end of the season. The bustling, lively city streets are turning into autumn eats!

The transition of the season is a reminder to pause and acknowledge the beautiful work nature does all on its own, and prepare for the year ahead. We, as an organization, are embedded in the communities we serve through our programs, Farms, Pantry, and PEAS (Project EATS After School), and feel that with this transition time, it is vital for us to keep our energy and focus there. As the season winds down, we are thrilled to take stock of everything that has been accomplished so far.

Help us plan(t) for 2027 by making a donation today! A gift of any size goes directly towards making fresh nutritious produce free and available to our neighbors.

We’re proud to welcome @jcrew as a new Partnership for New York City member. This Hunger Action Month, we’re highlighting one way they’re helping expand access to fresh, healthy food in New York City. 🥬❤️🗽

Now in its second year, the JCG Farmstand connects J.Crew Group’s NYC associates with fresh, hyperlocal produce while supporting @onelovecommunityfridge and @projecteats in their work to expand food access across the city.

Many thanks to J.Crew Group for showing how businesses can support their people and the communities around them. Welcome to the Partnership, @jcrew! taken in New York, New York by @projecteats

What stories can a sandwich contain?

Department of Transformation and Project EATS invite you to “Carry-ing,” the final episode of this season’s series of artist-led gatherings at The Essex Crossing Rooftop Farm, on Wednesday, September 30 from 5-8pm. Space is limited, so please RSVP by September 28 to fiona@projecteats.org to secure your spot!

“Carry-ing” is a collectively-authored experimental community meal powered by Carry, the modular sculpture and mobile kitchen conceived by artists Zacarías González and Chong Gu. Two different super-large format sandwiches will be assembled and served in situ, using personally and/or historically significant ingredients selected by a roster of invited artists, writers, and performers. Carry centers sandwich recipes as evolving substitution networks shaped by migration, local availability, and adaptation. Through assembling and adapting sandwiches, stories reveal how foodways connect people with land, framing spatial stewardship as an approach to sustaining cultural memories while making place anew in New York City.

This gathering welcomes community members to experience Project EATS, the living citywide installation of urban farms created by artist and activist Linda Goode Bryant, as a site of discovery, inspiration, and connection. Curated by Sam Rauch for artist-organized group Department of Transformation (supported by the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center), the program celebrates the Project EATS mission of Art, Food, and Life through collective imagination and creativity.

Please RSVP to fiona@projecteats.org by September 28. by @projecteats

Microgreens: harvest in as little as 7–14 days
Leafy greens: lettuce, arugula & baby spinach
Compact herbs: basil, cilantro, chives & parsley
Various cherry tomatoes: tiny tim, red robin, orange hat etc.

How can an urban farm become a living classroom for poetry and music?

Department of Transformation and Project EATS are delighted to invite you to “Black Forest School,” the next in our free monthly Third Wednesdays series of artist-led gatherings at The Essex Crossing Rooftop Farm, Wednesday, August 19 from 5–8pm. Space is limited, so please RSVP by August 14 to fiona@projecteats.org to secure your spot!

At “Black Forest School,” Interdisciplinary conceptual artist Ekene Ijeoma convenes a gathering centering African and Black American relationships with nature. Featuring a large-scale participatory poetry relay, a temporary installation using Ijeoma’s custom Black Forest milk crates, and live jazz performance, “Black Forest School” will be complemented by a collectively-prepared community meal powered by “Carry,” Zacarias González and Chong Gu’s modular sculpture and mobile kitchen.

Third Wednesdays welcomes community members to experience Project EATS, the living citywide installation of urban farms created by artist and activist Linda Goode Bryant, as a site of discovery, inspiration, and connection. Curated by Sam Rauch for artist-organized group Department of Transformation (supported by the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center) a variety of guest artists, activists, and farmers will contribute participatory offerings celebrating the Project EATS mission of Art, Food, and Life through collective imagination and creativity.

Please RSVP to fiona@projecteats.org by August 14. Interested in being a poetry reader? Let us know in your email! See you soon on the rooftop farm! 🌱
