Here is quick and dirty NMM steel with a sponge that takes roughly 10 mins with just 3 colors. I slowed it down to fit a 1 min short.

ProAcryl Black (any black will work)
ProAcryl White (any white will work)
Kimera Blue (Any really rich blue will work.

I’m using the sponges as a semi wet palette and I’m using my hand to make sure I get the right color for the next transition.
I’m still working on figuring out how to make tutorials but I hope this helps!

Here’s my progress over the years.

I started painting back in 2018, mostly on and off. But around the middle of 2020, I decided I actually wanted to learn how to paint and make a real effort to improve.

I don’t have an art background. Everything I know came from watching painters who were far more experienced than me, observing what they did, trying to recreate it, failing at it, and trying again.

And more than anything, it just took time and patience.

I wanted to share this because I’ve seen some people be hard on themselves about their painting, especially when comparing their work to other painters online.

Please don’t do that to yourself.

You’re seeing where someone is now, not all the ugly paint jobs, failed experiments, stripped models, frustration, and practice that came before it.

You don’t need some magical artistic talent to become a great painter. You need time, patience, a willingness to learn, to keep putting paint on the next model.

Be proud of where you are now, and then keep going.

My audience might be small, but I hope this encourages even one of you to pick up your brush instead of putting yourself down, and keep improving.

Finally finished the Lion for my good friend Grant Morrow who watched this one come together from beginning to end. There was a LOT going on with this model, but I had a ton of fun painting him and I’m really happy with how everything came together.
