Pride Month hits a little differently for me this year in 2026. It isn’t just a reason for us to get drunk, an excuse to party with our friends & wear rainbows.

As a Latino/Asian Gay American, I’ve spent my life learning how to embrace every part of who I am. There were times growing up where we have felt afraid to be who we are, ashamed to be ourselves or taught this way of life is right and this way is wrong. Now I’ve reached a place where I genuinely love and celebrate everything about who we truly are inside, the basic rights that we deserve,that we and those before us have fought for. That’s what Pride has always meant to me—living authentically, loving openly, and refusing to shrink who you are to make others comfortable.

Right now it has been so difficult watching rights that so many people fought for being challenged and seeing fear spread through communities. I think about LGBTQ+ people/teens who are discovering who they are, immigrants, women, those with disabilities, people of color, and the trans community who are wondering what the future holds. I think about the generations before us who marched, protested, and sacrificed so that people like me could live more openly than we ever had the chance to. It disgusts me how many steps we continue to take back across the board all around the world when it comes to humanity, the basic rights we should have as people and the amount of hate “the president” has openly brought forward leading people to believe that it’s ok/normal to being homophobic, misogynistic & racist.

So this Pride Month, I’m celebrating—but I’m also reflecting. I’m grateful for how far we’ve come & that we don’t give up. I will continue standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, for immigrants, for women, for trans people, and for every person who deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Being proud isn’t just about celebrating who we are when it’s easy. It’s about continuing to show up, love loudly, vote, protest and fight for one another when it’s hard. So although things may not be the greatest right now under this administration I refuse to let ignorance & hate dim our light.
