The @2ofakindworldwide Breaking event at @area15official was one for the books. Breakers from all ages showed up and showed out. We were happy to come out and support them by providing athletic training services to help them stay at their best.

There’s a person behind every performance.

Behind the titles.
Behind the wins.
Behind the productivity.
Behind the days when you feel unstoppable, and the days when you don’t.

That person deserves care too.

At ProMotion, Athletic Training is about more than helping you keep moving. It’s about understanding the demands you carry, the things you’re working toward, and what you need to keep showing up as yourself.

You were never just your performance.

You’re a whole story, in motion.

When I’m in any performance environment, be it the stage or the field, I’m paying attention.

How much repetition is happening?
How much precision is required?
How quickly does the person have to recover and do it again?

Performance doesn’t happen in isolation. There’s preparation, execution, recovery, and everything in between.

Those observations matter because they help me understand what the person is actually asking of themselves.

Performance care starts with paying attention.

“It’s fine.”

That’s a phrase I hear pretty often while covering events.

And sometimes, it really is fine.

Other times, it starts a conversation.

Thumb injuries are easy to overlook until you realize how many movements depend on them.

Gripping.

Catching.

Stabilizing.

Even simple daily tasks.

Sometimes, a little support is all that’s needed to help an athlete finish the day more comfortably and confidently.

When I watch popping, one of the first things I notice is control.

Repeated contractions.

Frequent starts and stops.

Precision.

That observation led me to think about preparation.

One movement strategy I’d consider is thoracic spine mobility.

Why?

Because the thoracic spine influences upper-body movement and torso positioning.

Improving mobility through the upper back can create more access to the range of motion that helps set up chest pops and other controlled upper-body movements.

This isn’t a prescription or a universal warm-up.

It’s simply an example of how I connect movement observations to preparation as an Athletic Trainer.

Watch the movement.

Identify the demands.

Prepare with intention.

When I watch popping, one of the things I immediately notice is control.

The moments that catch my attention aren’t always the biggest movements.

They’re the pauses.

The stops.

The ability to create movement and then instantly control it.

From a movement perspective, that requires the body to do much more than simply generate force.

Muscles have to coordinate.

Joints have to stabilize.

Movement has to be controlled repeatedly.

As an Athletic Trainer, those are the moments that start the conversation for me.

What structures are working the hardest?

Where is force being transferred?

What demands is this style placing on the body?

That’s what I love about working within different movement styles.

Every style tells a different story.

“It feels tight” is useful information, but it isn’t the whole assessment.

When a dancer tells me something feels tight, I’m immediately thinking about what changed.

Is motion actually limited?

Is another area doing more work because something else isn’t contributing?

Does the sensation change once we start moving?

The goal isn’t to chase every tight spot with stretching.

The goal is to understand what the body is communicating and decide what it needs next.

That might be mobility.

It might be strength.

It might be recovery.

It might mean we need to look deeper.

That’s the difference between doing something to the body and making a decision based on the body in front of you.

Every movement tells a story.

One of the things I love most about being an Athletic Trainer in the dance community is that I’m constantly learning the physical language of different movement styles.

When I watch a dancer, I’m not just seeing choreography.

I’m paying attention to how movement is created.
How force is transferred.
Where control comes from.
How the body adapts to the demands being placed on it.

Every style asks something different of the body.

Every dancer moves differently.

That’s why my approach to performance care starts with understanding movement first.

Because the better we understand movement, the better we can prepare for it.

You only get one body.

Your rounds.
Your battles.
Your rehearsals.
Your sessions.

They all depend on the same ankles, knees, and spine.

At ProMotion, the goal is to prepare movement rather than reacting when something hurts.

A few intentional minutes before you dance can change how you move through the rest of your session.

Protect your movement.
Your future self will thank you.

Which area do you usually skip during your warm-up?

Dance spaces deserve access to performance care that understands the movement happening inside them.

The physical demands change across styles, rehearsals, battles, conventions and stage performances. ProMotion’s role is to meet dancers within those environments and provide care based on the individual, the movement and the demands in front of them.

That may include:

• Injury evaluation
• Movement assessment
• Rehabilitation guidance
• Preparation and recovery support
• On-site emergency care
• Return-to-performance decisions

This is the work I want to continue expanding: bringing athletic training directly into the dance community and supporting performers throughout the full experience.

What type of dance event would you like to see ProMotion at next?
