Patti Smith was poetically razor-sharp last night, reminding us that the stakes are no longer abstract. We should fear a world without artists. Yet censorship is redrawing the world, and power is turning openly against imagination. The questions feel increasingly urgent: how do we resist authoritarian, dogmatic, totalizing, and coercive ideologies? How do we continue to make, and think under censorship? What will the platforms of the future be? And when governments become fascist, what role will private institutions play? Can they become spaces of resistance, or will they simply mirror the structures of power? Thinking about the future is always dangerous, it can lead to paralysis, even despair. Yet perhaps the challenge is not to predict what comes next, but to keep imagining otherwise. For now, a moment to breathe. We, as artists, possess a weapon. I was honoured to curate the exhibition of Jordanian / US artist, Tanya Habjouqa “Shadow Nor Sun” for the 25th Anniversary of Łódź Fotofestiwal in Poland. I’ve been working with Tanya since 2014 and it’s been a privledge to witness her collaboration with the Palestinian people, helping them to bring their stories into the light. It was a challenge to take this wealth of material and limit it to two walls - This work deserves a museum exhibition. I’ve had the pleasure of working with @fotofestiwal for a lot of those 2 1/2 decades. Thanks to them for giving me this opportunity. Special thanks to @eastwingphoto .“Shadow Nor Sun” documents how Palestinians hold onto land, knowledge, and family under an occupation built to remove all three. The work began in 2009 and continues today.For men serving long sentences, fatherhood means smuggling sperm out of prison. Since 2012, more than ninety children have been conceived this way. Israel refuses them identity papers and bars them from visiting their fathers.People answer with what they have. In Silwan, a father under an eviction order set an inflatable pool on his roof so his children could have the sea they were too afraid to leave the house to reach What was visible then as slow erasure is now legible to the world as something else entirely.In Gaza, there is no land left to stay on.@habjouqa by @psamison

Opening this weekend Tanya Habjouqa’s ongoing series “Shadow nor Sun” @fotofestiwal Łódź Poland Open Programme.“There is a Palestinian folk tale. The Devil proposes to share a field with the farmer: “I will take what is above ground and you what is below.” The farmer plants radishes. The following year the Devil says, “I will take what is below ground and you what is above.” The farmer plants lentils. The occupation seizes the visible: the orchards, the groves. What remains is hidden, carried, smuggled. The farmer plants where the Devil is not looking.“Shadow nor Sun” documents how Palestinians hold onto land, knowledge, and family under an occupation built to remove all three. Thank to @fotofest for hosting me in Houston last month - it was a week filled with reviewing, meeting old friends and making new friends. Again, seeing lots of art and chatting, and chatting, and connecting, and chatting some more. 2 hours of waiting to get through security on the way out but it was an honour celebrating the 40th anniversary with my dear Fotofest colleagues! by @psamison

I had a few moments of joy last month in San Francisco visiting dear friends, visiting old haunts, seeing art, and being in the city that I miss so much. Was nice to be there for a minute - I hope I can be back again in the fall for a longer visit.❤️ by @psamison

Meet the judges for Earth Photo 2026!This year, our panel is made up of 6 exceptional judges from across the world of art and photography.@emma_bowkett Director of Photography for the @ft_weekend, based in London. She is also known for her work as a curator and is a visual art advisor for the HOUSE festival.@psamison artistic director and curator, of eastwingphoto. She has served as a nominator and juror for numerous photography awards.Serubiri Moses, Ugandan curator, writer, and educator based in New York. He teaches Art History at Hunter College, and is Visiting Faculty at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College@shahidul001 renowned Bangladeshi photographer, curator, and activist. Very grateful for this year and all the adventures I was given. Starting in South Africa with @newfcommunity and ending in Spain with one of my oldest and dearest friends. Love and thanks to dear friends, family, colleagues and the amazing group of artists I have the honour of working with.
