The original 0.7ha Angel Flower Pinot Noir vineyard, planted in Waikari (North Canterbury) between 2000-2002 by Mike and Claudia Weersing, formed part of the original 2.2ha at @pyramidvalleyvineyards, alongside Earth Smoke Pinot Noir (0.8ha), Lionā€™s Tooth Chardonnay (0.4ha) and Field of Fire Chardonnay (0.3ha), all biodynamically farmed from the outset and still so today. @stevesmithmw and Brian Sheth have since added a further 4.8ha on this naturally beautiful site, drawn to its combination of limestone, clay and marl soils and cool, ripening conditions. Not to mention the raft of beautiful wines the Weersings made here between 2006 and 2016. The 2024s, slated for an October release, feature some of the most compelling and singular single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir being made in New Zealand today. #nzwine #pyramidvalley #waikari taken in Pyramid Valley Vineyards by @psrichebourg

Perhaps the most contentious decision in @michelinguideā€™s new Burgundy ranking was to give Domaine Armand Rousseau one šŸ‡ instead of two, or three. The argument for is that the wines arenā€™t as consistent as they once were, and that the chasing pack in Gevrey has finally caught up. There was a time, not so long ago, when there was daylight between Rousseau and the next best producer in Gevrey - and when these wines were every bit the equal of DRC, Leroy and co, at a fraction of the price. The argument against this ranking are the wines tasted on the weekend. From the delicious Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques 2010 (a Rousseau vineyard often dismissed as so-so) to the superb Chambertin 2017 and the truly sublime Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1999. Red Burgundy doesnā€™t get much better than this last wine. The perfume, the finesse, the sheer complexity, youth and balance. The other two wines (all served masked, as with our white bracket) deserve a mention too. No surprise the Domaine de la RomaneĢe-Conti Grands EcheĢzeaux 1993 was so good, with its heady rose petal and potpourri aromas and richly fruited palate. The surprise packet was just how good the S.C. Guillard Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1999 was. Michel and Odette Guillard (now in their 80s) run a tiny, old-school operation with no website, no email, and no reviews to speak of. Theyā€™ll never feature in Michelinā€™s rating system. But this bottle, from one of the all-time great vintages, has years of life left in it, and it stood up beautifully in some very good company. by @psrichebourg

This bracket (served masked) made a mockery of the new @michelinguide burgundy ratings. Three great white producers and all near or at the top of tree. For most of the tasters there was little between the @domaineleflaive Puligny-Montrachet 2022 (a simply beautiful village wine) and the sublime, pure and concentrated @domainelamy Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 2022. The @pierreyvescolinmorey Saint-Aubin Les Champlots 2023 needing the most time. #christmasinjuly #whiteburgundy taken in Bright, Victoria by @psrichebourg

I met @timkirk2 in 1996 when he walked into Philip Murphy, Toorak, and asked if Iā€™d like to taste a wine heā€™d made. I ended up buying three dozen bottles of the 1994 @clonakillawines Shiraz Pinot Noir Viognier. Last week at a Clonakilla membersā€™ dinner @bar_lesplendide I put on my last bottle as an options wine. It showed brilliantly; medium bodied, fine boned and with little sign of decay. Tim tells me this was, to his knowledge, the first wine in the world to carry the words Shiraz and Viognier on its label. The rest, as they say, is history. taken in France-Soir by @psrichebourg

Michael Broadbent once wrote, ā€œnot even on a dark night with sausagesā€ when reviewing an ordinary cru bourgeois Bordeaux. A few highlights from @mosaiquewinesā€™ well-chosen and well priced Bordeaux lineup at @kelvinclubinc today. No surprise that LeĢoville-PoyferreĢ and Grand Puy Ducasse have produced excellent second wines in 2019, but the real overachiever is ChaĢ‚teau Le Crock, punching well above its Cru Bourgeois status in this vintage. Le Crock is owned by the Cuvelier family, who also own LeĢoville-PoyferreĢ. Sara Lecompte Cuvelier took over both estates in 2018 and a while Julien Viaud of Labo Rolland still consults, these 2019s feel noticeably different to the opulent, oak-driven wines that defined the Michel Rolland era. Equally interesting are the two Right Bank wines. ChaĢ‚teau Gombaude-Guillot ā€˜Pom n Rollā€™ is a 50/35/15 blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec, certified biodynamic since 2000, fermented in cement and aged a year in amphora. This is fruit-driven, structured and genuinely delicious. I loved Domaine Marius Bielleā€™s Lalande-de-Pomerol: 100% Merlot from biodynamically farmed vines (certified 2021), fermented and matured in cement by Damien Bielle, who trained at PeĢtrus and Cheval Blanc before returning to his familyā€™s estate. Textured, layered, and beautifully structured; a joy to drink now and for at least a decade. by @psrichebourg

A great day tasting with @clarisse_jauffret @domaine_brunoclair @domainegeorgesroumier @thomasbouley1 with wines from 2023, 2024 and 2025 (out of barrel) and wide-ranging conversations on history, climate change, yields, pruning and trellising, picking dates, closures, terroir and more. Different philosophies, and styles, but really beautiful wines at all three domaines. by @psrichebourg

Week 2 @restaurantcaveetcuisine. Same great food, service and wine list. The 2023 whites can generally be enjoyed young, unlike the often brilliant, low yielding and more structured 2024s. If you can find them. This Coche-Dury Meursault 2023 opened up wonderfully over the course of the evening. @chateaurayas 2015 is more open than the darker, more brooding Pignan 2015, tasted last week in Champagne. Kirsch, ispahan, pot pourri, tobacco and leather; heady, silky-textured and rich but never heavy. Simply irresistible. One of the worldā€™s great wines, as rare as grand cru red Burgundy and quite a bit less expensive; if you know where to look šŸ˜‰ by @psrichebourg

@domainecomtearmand winemakers past and present. Pascal Marchand @marchand_tawse was just 23, with only one vintage at Bruno Clair under his belt, when the Armand family handed him the keys to the cellars in 1985. A former merchant marine from Quebec, Pascal converted the domaine to organic viticulture and, over the course of 14 vintages, put this nearly 200-year-old, still family owned domaine firmly on the map. He stayed until 1999, when Benjamin Leroux, who had been working part-time at the domaine since the age of 15, took over the reins, himself remaining until 2014. At the heart of the domaine lies the prestigious 5ha Pommard Clos des EĢpeneaux, a monopole Premier Cru and one of the appellationā€™s greatest vineyards. @janeeyrewines has recently been appointed the new winemaker, succeeding Paul Zinetti, and like Pascal, is another ā€˜outsiderā€™ being entrusted with the keys to these historic cellars by the Armand family. We tasted the 2024s out of tank (and which are just about to be bottled) and the 2025s out of barrel, which Jane will finish the elevage on over the next 12 months. The wines, on the whole, are impressive, and I canā€™t wait to return next year to taste Janeā€™s first vintage in barrel here. taken in Comte Armand by @psrichebourg

Thanks Marc, for opening this bottle of @domaineservin Les Preuses 2002. From a .6ha plot planted in 1955, this bottle kept opening up with air. With its aromas of flint, beeswax and toasted brioche, this is still both generous and taut on the palate. The 2025s are looking good out of barrel too. #chablis #grandcru @winecompanion šŸ‡«šŸ‡· wine tour 2026 by @psrichebourg
