That lamps read Edgar Allen Poe in Joy Williams’s America, and that hotlines are rivers of wisdom, are not idle literary quirks. Instead, in stories that reach towards a childlike awareness, they offer outlets for a greater soul, one unsettled and often tortured – but which, if you can bear all animal taxidermy, are also brutally funny. Patrick McGraw’s send-up of America’s greatest living writer is in Spike 88 – SPIRITUALITY.

Print copies are on sale in our online shop (link in bio) and select book and magazine stores worldwide.

There’s a lot of talk about what architecture can do. There are grand, sweeping promises of urban development by means of walls and corridors. But ‘Jester House,’ the work of speculative fiction and design by Patrick McGraw, Liam Denhamer and Juvenilia, points to the collapse of the ideals of architecture, an elucidation of how frequently the shelter we build fail to serve. Through the lens of one Jester House’s residents, the work follows hostile architecture and its proliferating effects on it inhabitants.

Hit the link in bio to read “Jester House: Fire and Chaos,” by @ptrkmgrw, @liam.denhamer, and #Juvenilia for Flash Art Volume 003 “Opacity.”

"I think in a weird way, we're entering this post-image society. Writing is much more important now than it's ever been."

@heavy_traffic_mag editor and publisher @ptrkmgrw is on the pod this week.

Literature has the ability to capture our now terminally online consciousness. Architecture, on the other hand—a cultural form that once stood for whole epochs—has in recent decades become anachronistic, divorced from the virtual world that increasingly holds us captive. Patrick originally studied architecture @aaschool before making a shift into journalism and eventually leading a literary magazine, and in our conversation we try to bridge this gap between the worlds of architecture and fiction.

Drove through the desert for days to visit Ralph Bakshi at his compound in rural New Mexico where he told me that all of the original drawings for Heavy Traffic were incinerated by MGM after one of his many fist fights with the producers there by @ptrkmgrw
