"Unbuilt 2.0" Building on my submission for the show #ChitthiAayiHai held at @o.art.space in Lahore, I experimented with another unbuilt bathroom drawing. As an architect, I have made many drawings for spaces that were never built. Unbuilt begins with one such drawing - a bathroom that existed only on paper. The drawing becomes a site for another kind of construction, continuing my ongoing exploration of the often unseen materials and techniques of building: jute string soaked in red oxide, impressions taken from the patterns behind tiles, and layers of acrylic, oil, carbon print, archival print and graphite. What is normally concealed beneath the finished surface is brought to the surface. Unbuilt 2.0 4 x 6 inches Mixed media mounted on steel Submitted for "The 4x6 Edit". Show to be held at @zaalcontemporary in Islamabad this September. #the4x6edit #zaalcontemporary #pakistanart #pakistaniartists #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #islamabadart #southasiaart #artexhibition by @pull_ke_us_paar
What remains hidden inside a wall? Block masonry is built, plastered over, and painted. Over time, another layer of paint replaces the last. Each surface conceals what came before it, carrying traces of different moments, uses and histories. In this work, I wanted to deconstruct that process. Impressions of block masonry are transferred onto the canvas, while sand becomes part of its surface. Layers of paint are built up, peeled back and allowed to reveal themselves—like the accumulated histories of a wall painted over again and again. The materials and processes that are normally concealed within construction become the surface of the work itself. Mixed media 2 ft × 12 ft HAUS Edit Volume 01 Curated by @zarmeene @karachi_curatorial Available for acquisition. Bringing this one back from the archives. I made this piece at the onset of my art practice in 2021. It was the first time I had dipped construction materials in paint and taken their impressions on canvas. Had to re-teach myself how to draw the human form, especially one without a head. It had worked out, somehow it always does. Thank you @artchowkthegallery for putting this work up and thank you @humayunmemon for curating my first show. Contributing a piece to an upcoming group show which opens this Friday on the 17th of April, titled "HAUS Edit Vol 01". I thought if anyone decides to follow my page, I would like them to see where it all began first. #archives #artistsoninstagram #unsung #impression #steel #tile #bamboo #string #painting🎨 #masonry #figures #formwork #wood. What an honor to have been part of the IVS Faculty Show, 2025! Thank you Nurayah Sheikh Nabi @nurayahsheikh and Adeel Uz Zafar @adeeluzzafar for approaching me. Lots of love to my partner in "crime" Zehra Nabi @zehra.nabi. Probative Associations - the IVS Faculty Show 2025 continues until 11 November 2025 at @ivsgalleryofficial curated by @nurayahsheikh and @adeeluzzafar -------------------------------- The exhibition centers on the theme of duality - as both method and practice. It explores how our teaching, learning, and making practices converge, diverge, and overlap within a shared creative and pedagogical space. Through a range of artistic investigations, the show reflects on how faculty at IVS navigate the complexities of form, process, and identity keeping within the curatorial note. Probative Associations emerges from a collaborative process of inquiry and selection, with proposals invited from all permanent and visiting faculty, spanning emerging, early-career, and established practitioners. The works of 18 IVS faculty are part of the exhibition. Proposal Selection Team: Usman Ansari, Zehra Nabi, Adeel Uz Zafar, and Nurayah Sheikh Nabi Design Lead: Sohail Zuberi @zuberisohail by @pull_ke_us_paar
