Memoir Monday

Back in 2024 I learned about the horrors Gisele Pelicot unknowingly experienced for years. Being drugged and repeatedly raped in her home and facilitated by her own husband.

Hers is just one of many stories we’ve heard of. Back when I was in college I remember reading the courageous stories of both Emma Sulkowicz “Mattress Girl” & Chanel Miller ( Brock Turner) . What do all these women have in common ? They’ve revealed their identities and been crucified. Why should they carry the shame? Why is hate sent to survivors and not the barbarians who attacked them?

Now current day 2026 we have the Cornell 7 who drugged and raped a woman repeatedly for hours back in 2024 . No one in that frat group chat or in the frat house thought to stand against them or tell them to stop. Their only punishment ? Having to write an essay…. They’ve gone on to live normal lives but only now that the public has become aware have we seen both the university and police reopen the cases.

I’m angry. Women should be able to trust that strangers, spouse, someone you meet or consider a friend wouldn’t take advantage of you. It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing, if you drank or did drugs , your background etc it doesn’t give the right for men to rape. And before someone says but not all men , can it ! I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t experienced some form of rape culture but so many men claim to never see it or befriend anyone that does that.

Normalize speaking out against this type of behavior. There is such a range( swipe next slide) of topics that fall under this pyramid, it’s important to speak up and out against this!

It’s September, but the summer weather is still here 🫠

I read The Summer Girlfriend back in July and loved it !
A perfect read for a sunny day☀️🌊

In the meantime, I’m trying to spend September reading my insane physical tbr ! Excited to jump into some spooky fall reads.

New Month, New Reads 🫡☺️🏀

Finally we’ve reached the BER months! I don’t know about y’all but I’ve never been so excited for fall! This summer has been too hot 🥵

With that being said I got an EARC of Home Court Advantage by @kimanimaewrites but of course I needed a physical copy as well!! 🤩⛹🏾‍♀️

This is my first read by this author and I’m having a blast!! Also perfect time to dive in as WNBA season continues 🙂‍↔️

🌝As we head into the last month of Q3 I’m trying to find some motivation. I’m still reading a ton but haven’t had desires to make or post content. A content slump/burnout? If that even makes sense. I am trying to find pockets of joy outside the book sphere but current events in US have been aggravating 🫩

A messy Eclipse season indeed but looking forward to September bringing some hopeful structure 🤞🏾

Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten my thrillers it is Summerween after all 🎃😝

While I haven’t been posting my thriller reads online lately I am still fully hooked! Over the last few years, I’ve been making my way through Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn legal thriller series, but books 3& 7 are not available in the US😭.
The same goes for Sam Holland’s Major Crimes series, books 3–5 aren’t available here either. (I did manage to snag book 3 last year. 😛)

Luckily I was able to find them through @blackwellbooks and they arrived so quickly !! ( thank you🎉) I can’t wait to pick up where I left off😝

I still highly recommend reading both series. They’ve quickly become auto-buy authors for me!

BRBF 2026 📚
In true fashion, I’m only a week late 🤪 but had the best time at @blackromancebookfestival !!

It was so fun putting faces to all the book accounts !! I met so many new people and authors! Also idk how but left with a ton of merch and books 🤭😅 ! Totally worth the sore feet , friendships and all the laughs I got to share. 🥰💛

Already counting down the days to next year 🖤!

Some movies entertain you.
Some movies stay with you.
Sinners did both. 🖤🎸

It’s been almost a year since it premiered, and I still haven’t stopped thinking about it. I saw it three times in theaters and have watched it countless times on streaming since🤩

Though I will say @bookswith.janel has me beat , she is the #1 Sinners Stan ! We purchased these last May on vinyl and I’m so happy to add to my collection! It’ll be spinning all day in celebration!

There was just something about Sinners, the story telling, the incredible cast, the atmosphere that hit deep.😭🥹. The kind of film that reminds you why art matters in the first place ! I honestly wish I could relive the feeling of watching it for the first time.

Personally think Sinners should’ve won every award it was nominated for 😤 However getting to watch Sinners make history last night at the Oscars was beyond rewarding!

Starting Blood Slaves to lean back into my vampire era 🧛🏾‍♀️

Also… I want Sinners on Broadway and on ice 🤭
Forever obsessed.

Wow last night was beyond amazing!!! I’m still riding the high 🤩🤩🤩

Thank you @trooptropebookclub for giving me the opportunity to cohost!! Getting the chance to meet and ask @jlseegarsauthor questions was an absolute highlight ! Her love stories are so important, especially as a black woman and hearing her speak about her work and journey was incredibly special ✨

And in even more exciting news, books 2–4 from @jlseegarsauthor are being rereleased, with the next one dropping April 14th 👏🏾📖 So much to celebrate!

I’m naturally a pretty anxious person and I was quite nervous but thank you to everyone for your kind words and support ! It means more than you know🥹Nothing brings me more joy than yapping about books !

An added bonus was meeting @natashabishopwrites who was an absolute gem ! Be sure to check out her next romance book coming April 14 😍
