My brain thinks in angles, colours, and raw intuition.

This isn't an art style. It’s just the shapism process happening in real time.

When you have an autistic mind, everything hits you at once loud sounds, bright lights, shifting moods, and a million overlapping thoughts.

Painting like this isn't me trying to look trendy. It’s just how I filter out the noise. Putting things into hard angles, clean edges, and solid blocks is the only way I can actually sit still and sort through my head. It’s literal structure for a brain that feels completely disorganized.

This piece actually started as an experiment. I was looking at some homemade gift tags and got totally inspired by them hole punched and layered over each other.

It made me think of Malevich and how he used simple squares to find pure quiet, except for me, it’s not an art theory it’s just a coping mechanism.

Sliding a circle into a sharp corner or letting a block of colour overlap another isn't a random design choice.

It's me boxing up a specific thought, categorizing it, and putting it where it belongs so it finally stops bouncing around in my head. It's just my honest, slightly messy way of finding a little bit of peace.

Are there others out there like me with this superpower, or am I alone?

When I painted this, I wanted to capture the stark, mechanical geometry we build to survive the infinite.
The dark, heavy circle at the center isn’t a void it’s an anchor.

When people look at this piece, I want them to imagine the single, repeating piano note that opens Hans Zimmer’s Day One: a quiet, hypnotic pulse like a radio signal blinking alone in the deep dark. Every block of colour I stacked on the outer edges represents a calculation.

I chose to disrupt the cold, sterile whites and blues of the void with sudden, aggressive hits of orange and yellow to show machine logic battling the emptiness.

🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️

As the music builds and the church organs roll in, the visual weight shifts.

Those geometric blocks shouldn't look static anymore they are heavy orbital machinery slowly rotating around a central gravity well, locked in a permanent loop.

We build these tiny, fragile, perfectly geometric things and launch them into the dark, trusting that the math will hold.

This piece is that exact feeling: the quiet, heavy tension of a machine drifting through the deep, perfectly balanced, and completely alone.

Lately, I’ve just been really into clean lines and bold colours.
There's something nice about working with simple shapes when everything else feels a bit chaotic.

I spent a lot of time moving things around to make sure the bright red and yellow didn't completely drown out the grey and blue parts.

My last piece was a necessary experiment in pure minimalism, but it was always going to be temporary.

The autistic hyperfocus kicked into absolute overdrive for this one, and the shapism process is fully unleashed.

When I'm in this zone, shapism feels like cruise control.
It's a way of exploring how intersecting geometric planes and bold pigments build tension without needing a map.

The process takes the lead entirely. Who knows where it'll take me next, but I'm locked in for the ride.

The Shift ⬛ 🟥 🟨
Acrylic on canvas
2026

My brain doesn’t have an off switch. To clear the constant sensory clutter, I’ve returned to pure minimalism.

Through a process I call cleansing shapism, I’ve stripped everything back. No extra details, just basic, flat blocks of colour floating and balancing against each other on the canvas.

I know this minimalist phase won't last long my mind moves way too fast to stick with one vibe for months but right now, this quiet separation is the only thing making sense.

Autism is a superpower!

Gift tags 2019
Acrylic on canvas

Following up on my last post about these gift tags I wanted to dig a bit deeper into the actual thinking behind them.

Back then, when I first started working on this concept I was really leaning into
"Shapism."

It's essentially the idea that you can strip away all literal imagery and distill our visual world down to its fundamental building blocks.

This specific layout is a continuation of a second design experiment I was running back then in 2018 and 2019.

I was trying to figure out how far you could push geometric abstraction before it loses its edge, and these tags felt like the right place to revisit that puzzle.

For me, it comes down to how the forms balance and compete with each other.
By layering the grey blocks, the cream circle, and that crimson backdrop against the green, the design relies entirely on composition and negative space.

It's just a reminder that simple geometry can do the heavy lifting perfectly.

If you look at my older shapism pieces the canvas was always completely packed with overlapping blocks and high energy layers.

It kind of mirrored the sensory noise I deal with daily on the autism spectrum. For the last two months, I’ve been trying to force myself out of that habit.

This piece is a specific one-off homage study where I wanted to see what happens if you fuse Malevich and Kandinsky together.

It’s taking Kandinsky’s chaotic, lyrical energy and trying to filter it through Malevich’s strict, floating Suprematist weights. Instead of just crowding the canvas like I used to, I’m letting the white space do the heavy lifting.

Every single angle and floating circle was a deliberate choice to see how much tension a few isolated shapes can hold.

Shapism isn’t trying to translate the world for you.

To be honest, as an autistic creator my daily life is just a constant bombardment of sensory overload and masking.

Traditional art usually asks you to look at a canvas and decode a story a face, a landscape a hidden meaning. But to me, doing that feels exactly like masking. It’s forcing raw perception into a pre-made social mold.

Kazimir Malevich had this concept back in 1915 called the zero degree of art. It’s the point where you strip away objects completely just to let pure feeling breathe.

Shapism is that exact same boundary line just mapped through a neurodivergent brain.

Look at these blocks. They aren’t symbols. They don’t stand for something else. They are just literal heavy weights, sharp angles and hard boundaries occupying space.

My mind craves the honesty of pure structure because geometry doesn't lie it doesn't give mixed signals, and it doesn't mask.

If your brain ever gets tired of decoding the world, let me know. I'd love to know I'm not the only one who finds peace in just shapes.

Seeking the zero degree of form. ⬛️🟥 In a world of overstimulation Shapism offers a return to pure feeling. This composition isn't about representing objects; it’s about the dynamic tension between geometric essence and infinite space.

I was messing around with inverted gravity on this new canvas.

I wanted to see if I could make the top feel incredibly heavy by stacking those dark blocks right at the peak, using that sharp orange slice to anchor the whole thing.

The yellow rectangle just cuts right through to throw the grid off balance.

Pack of Cards

"Shuffle the deck,

but the game is purely aesthetic. This piece which I've titled 'Pack of Cards' is a study in geometric abstraction exploring the dynamic interplay of shape colour and composition.

The sharp red diamonds reminiscent of the classic card suit are set against a field of vibrant yellow and deep blue creating a visual tension that is both playful and precise.

It's a game where the rules are about balance and form not chance. Every element is carefully placed to guide the eye through a vibrant non-representational space.
