This was the first time exhibiting anything since my burnout after graduation. I thought I quit art forever, only to see my work at Tate Britain….This evening meant so much to me, thank you to all the beautiful people who came to support me, thank you @girlsinfilm_gif @tatecollective for the opportunity to exhibit my work, and most importantly to spread the message this image holds.

‘The Shapes We Are Given’ highlights communal intimacy within moments of political activism, showing acts of care which may appear juxtaposed given the circumstances. Face paint, usually tied to joy and childhood, appears here at a Palestine solidarity rally, becoming a marker of political belonging and shared identity. It becomes a reminder of how childhood is being reshaped by political urgency.

My image ‘The Shapes We Are Given’ was exhibited at Tate Britain last night, as part of the ‘Girls in Film x Tate Collective’ curation for the Lee Miller Late.

While I’m honoured to have been selected, I’m equally pleased that this image was given a platform to draw attention to human rights and the civilian cost of conflict, but also to the quiet acts of care that exist even amid violence.

I hope that in seeing this image, these conversations continue beyond the room.

‘Postcards - Images and Whispers’ opened last night at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre in Athens. I am honoured (and emotional) to have had my work selected from an open-call of over 900 photographers, totalling more than 2,000 submitted works.

Though I am 2,000 miles away, my image and message stands amongst 300 other incredibly talented women photographers - an opportunity I am so grateful for.

I saw the exhibition ‘Postcards - Images and Whispers’ as an opportunity for me to send one last postcard to my nonna, whom passed away some time ago. My nonna was an extraordinary human. When she passed, we scattered her ashes along the coast of Mytikas, a town that has seen generations of my family growing up in during the summertime. My family’s heart lies there. Every year we swim in the same spot we let her go, feeling her presence in the breeze and waves. In my poem I write about ‘The Lost City of Alyzia’, and though it is a myth I like to imagine she has found peace there.

The exhibition is open until April 5th :)

Thank you @womensphotofestival for providing me a platform to display my work, and allowing me to send one last postcard. by @purplespix
