Only took me nearly 3 years to photograph my BA Final Degree Show piece & revive this page. Conclusion: Artist burnout is real. I didn’t plan to drop whatever creative drive I had left after completing my BA, but after years of constantly squeezing out every ounce of creative juice I had within my body, hearing my work critiqued to my face weekly, and writing more in-dept texts about contemporary art than one thought possible, I couldn’t even stand to look at art.

But here I am, nearly 3 years after graduating, with my metaphorical paint brush in hand. It only took joining & getting destroyed by the hospitality industry, moving countries trying to outrun the London burnout, and taking up antidepressants again after being off them for 8 years to feel *somewhat* prepared to enter the art world again…and yes, it all sounds rather melodramatic if you ask me.

Candidly, at the chaotic age of 23 I still struggle to admit I’m an artist. But, here I am. I can feel the art-spark again. Better late than never. by @purplesartt

This was the first time exhibiting anything since my burnout after graduation. I thought I quit art forever, only to see my work at Tate Britain….This evening meant so much to me, thank you to all the beautiful people who came to support me, thank you @girlsinfilm_gif @tatecollective for the opportunity to exhibit my work, and most importantly to spread the message this image holds.

‘The Shapes We Are Given’ highlights communal intimacy within moments of political activism, showing acts of care which may appear juxtaposed given the circumstances. Face paint, usually tied to joy and childhood, appears here at a Palestine solidarity rally, becoming a marker of political belonging and shared identity. It becomes a reminder of how childhood is being reshaped by political urgency.

My image ‘The Shapes We Are Given’ was exhibited at Tate Britain last night, as part of the ‘Girls in Film x Tate Collective’ curation for the Lee Miller Late.

While I’m honoured to have been selected, I’m equally pleased that this image was given a platform to draw attention to human rights and the civilian cost of conflict, but also to the quiet acts of care that exist even amid violence.

I hope that in seeing this image, these conversations continue beyond the room.

Thank you to the beautiful people that came to support me last night.

Combating derealisation with my crochet hook this winter. The second my brain tries convincing itself that the air looks uncanny, the living room is going to attack me (?) or a general horrific sensation of doom, you’ll find me crocheting on the kitchen floor of all places.

Using my hands in a creative, repetitive motion seems to keep me grounded. While anyone who’s experienced this can agree the 54321 game & ice cube method are also helpful, I will note that having an end-product does bring a sense of victory. I urge anyone who experiences this sensation to stitch, paint, sculpt or etch out your anxiety into pretty colours & shapes.

So here I am, crocheting like my left depends on it as I prepare to fist fight seasonal depression - but looking fashionable whilst doing so with my new scarf. by @purplesartt

Ohhhh my goodness the journey of this little guy has been insane!!!

Just one piece of the final degree show ensemble I’ve been working on…From taking nearly more than 3 weeks to dry, to snapping in the kiln 2 days before my final assessment (now fixed & ready for assessing!!!), exhausted is an understatement. by @purplesartt
