The results of our annual Social Skateboarding Projects survey with @skateistan are out!

The 2022 survey received the highest number of answers yet, reaching 152 projects working in 40 countries around the world who work with a combined 18,464 participants each week, 41% of which are girls. Of all projects, 58% work primarily with people of color, 42% with the LGBTQI+ community, 34% work with people with disabilities and 31% with migrants and refugees.

2022 saw an increased emphasis on mental health as a top aim for projects, including in training their staff and volunteers. Although the percentage of projects that have full-time paid staff has dropped in 2022, the percentage of part time staff increased significantly, as did the total number of full time staff employed by the projects, showing that projects who have full-time paid members of staff have likely taken more on. There still remains a large percentage of projects operating solely with volunteers and/or part-time paid staff.

The results of the 2021 edition of the Survey of Social Skateboarding Projects Worldwide by @skateistan and @pushingboarders are out!

The survey combines responses from 98 skateboarding projects working in 39 countries worldwide — who reach a combined 16,364 participants each week.

Facing the ongoing impact of the pandemic, social skateboarding projects have adapted their programs with 42% implementing a greater focus on mental health and wellbeing for staff and participants, and 40% being more open to collaboration.

The 2021 results also show more diversity in the participants as well as within the staffing teams of projects worldwide. 78% of projects have at least one female-identifying person as staff, which is an 11% increase from 2020. 55% of projects have at least one person of colour as staff - a 13% increase from 2020. With further increases of 9% for both LGBTQI+ team members and people with disabilities.

Collected data helps us better understand the world’s social skate scene and how skateboarding-based projects help create change around the world.

As Covid-19 continues to disrupt the world, 2021 has been about overcoming challenges and adapting to changes. Collecting this data helps social skate projects to get the support and resources they need, through @thegoodpush and beyond.

The results from the latest Social Skateboarding Survey by @skateistan and @pushingboarders are out now 🎉⠀
⠀
Like in previous years, the survey aims to better understand and document the goals, impact and activities of the social skateboarding communities, this time focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on the sector. ⠀
⠀
In 2020 we received answers from 117 skateboarding projects working in 60+ countries pushing forward despite the ongoing pandemic.⠀
⠀
Although 97% of the surveyed projects reported negative effects of the pandemic, many adapted to new circumstances, developing new safety measures, shifting to online programming, revising their income model, or expanding support for basic needs. ⠀

The 2020 survey results show various examples of how skateboarding can be leveraged to create positive change - make sure to check out the full report (link in bio).⠀

During last year’s Pushing Boarders, the Globally Stoked panelists got together with local skaters before the event to build a DIY bowl, learn new skills, get to know each other and form the global network.
