The path to the @socialskatesummit was paved, in-part, by @pushingboarders whose co-founder and organiser @chomtallan features in @dubinphoto’s dispatch.

In years since the first Pushing Boarders at @thebartlettucl and House of Vans (2018) and its subsequent event at @bryggerietskateorg (2019), alternative forms of knowledge exchange in skateboarding have become more common.

The likes of in @ryan_lay’s @slowimpactaz in Tempe, Arizona, @leovallsconnected’s @connect.skaturbanism.festival in Bordeaux, France, @adjacencybias’ upstart ‘Adjacent’ in Portland, Oregon or @skatenottingham’s ‘Skateboarding and the City’ festival are, like the summit, just a few of the global opportunities for both the activity and cerebral discussion of skateboarding to take place.

Those who believe in skateboarding as a vehicle for social good conveyed from far and wide for the first @socialskatesummit in late May.

“What emerged was a global gathering of people who believe, to varying degrees and in many forms, that skateboarding has the power to change the world,” writes Lee Dubin who was on the ground across a then unprecedented (and now seemingly commonplace 🥵) heatwave of a weekend in London.

Across @UCL’s East Campus and venturing to @longlivesouthbank and beyond, ideas were shared and moments cherished in this gathering of some of skateboarding’s most progressively-minded individuals and groups, organised by @keeprolling_co, @citymillskate and @thegoodpush.

In a thoughtful photo essay for Skate Bylines, Dubin explores the emergent word of “social skateboarding” organisations and individual where the joy of the endeavour is the whole point.
