🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Day at Pleasant View Elementary! 🔥🚒

Today, Providence firefighters spent the day with students at Pleasant View Elementary School for a fun-filled Fire Prevention Day!

Students had the chance to meet our firefighters, learn important fire safety and prevention lessons, and enjoy plenty of fun along the way — including a dunk tank, bouncy house, snacks, giveaways and hands-on fire prevention activities.

Events like this give our firefighters the opportunity to connect with the young people in our community while helping them build important safety skills that can last a lifetime.

A big thank you to the students and staff at Pleasant View Elementary for welcoming us and making it such a great day! by @pvdfiredept

Providence firefighters continued their technical rescue training this week, focusing on safely lifting and moving extremely heavy vehicles and machines during rescue situations.

This is part of our NFPA 1006 program, where thirty-two of our firefighters are training in specialized rescue skills including rope rescue, confined space, trench rescue, structural collapse, vehicle and machinery rescue, and heavy lifting.

The goal is simple: be ready for any type of rescue. by @pvdfiredept

Providence firefighters getting some hands-on training with vent saws and vertical ventilation.

Opening the roof during a fire gives heat and smoke a place to escape, helping improve conditions for firefighters working inside and anyone who may be trapped.

Another important skill that takes practice to get right. by @pvdfiredept

This week, three more Providence Fire Department Cadets started the 13-week Municipal Fire Academy. Through our partnership with Providence Public Schools, they began training while still in high school, earning certifications in firefighting, hazardous materials and as EMTs. Three graduates of the program are already Providence firefighters, and these three are next up. After the academy, they’ll join PFD as trainees for additional training before being sworn in.

And despite what the picture suggests, we promise they’re excited to be there. by @pvdfiredept

Today, we are excited to announce that we have not only added a new rescue with modernized features for faster response times, but for the first time in 10 years - we are expanding EMS coverage during the hours when our City sees the highest demand with a 10th staffed rescue. This expansion builds on the two impact rescues placed last fall and is part of our strategic plan to match emergency response resources to demands.

By collaborating and investing in our Fire Department, we continue to strengthen our public safety infrastructure and are building a safer Providence for all. by @pvdfiredept
