Narragansett Surf Rescue x Providence Fire Department | Swim Across America 🇺🇸

Narragansett proudly hosted Swim Across America, bringing together hundreds of swimmers to raise funds for cancer research benefiting Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island.

Narragansett Surf Rescue, the Providence Fire Department, Rhode Island Environmental Police, Narragansett Fire Department and Coastal Medical maintained exceptional situational awareness throughout the event, helping ensure a safe and successful day on the water.

A fantastic event—and an incredible effort by every swimmer, volunteer, supporter, and public-safety professional involved.

Today marks 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks that struck the twin towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

2,977 innocent people lost their lives in a day filled with tragedy, immeasurable loss, and unparalleled acts of bravery from both civilians and our first responders.

The Military Resource Center coordinated a remembrance service with the RIC community at 8:46AM this morning (the time the first tower was struck), in front of the 9/11 Memorial Stone on The Quad.

Join us in honoring and remembering those who lost their lives on this day in 2001. 🇺🇸 Gone but never forgotten. A memorial with small American flags surrounds a plaque titled "In Honor of the September 11, 2001, Terrorist Attacks." Behind it is Archbishop Wood High School, a two-story building with red accents and a school emblem. Large trees frame the scene.

Victor is a Providence firefighter and a supreme super-dad of 2 🚒🦸🏻‍♂️

He cruised into the zenden this week for his first ever assisted passive stretching session 🍊🕊️

After hearing some great things about our manual stretching work, he decided to book a lil Szechuan to learn more about our services 💡

As a firefighter with a deep wresting background, Vic keeps his strength and overall health at a high level; with the majority of his workouts coming in the form of plyos and functional training with his 10y/o son 👏

We assisted him through our passive stretching service, followed by some myofascial work to his neck and shoulder musculature ✨

Afterwards, he said he felt tremendous and could really see why people get stretched regularly- deciding to book himself a package of sessions with us to utilize throughout the fall 🎊

Vic, welcome to the familia 🎶

Keep crushing it with Julian at your at-home dojo, bro 💧🌱☀️💪⚾️🏒📈👏

See you next time at Fiz-Funk! 🐚

Great chatting with @bostonmedflight pilot Doug Atkins while he was on the ground in Providence last night. He has more than 7,500 flight hours between his time in the Navy, Coast Guard and MedFlight.

➡️Scroll to the end to see (and hear 🔊) him take off!
📖Read the captions for some info on this mission.

The rear of the chopper is equipped to transport a patient on a stretcher, ICU-level medical equipment, a critical care transport nurse, critical care paramedic and at least one pilot up front. They landed in Providence around 7:30pm to begin a transport mission.

This 3 year old H145 D3 helicopter is based out of Manchester, NH. Boston MedFlight operates at 4 other bases in the region as well.

The medical team transferred into a Providence Fire Department ambulance to pick up their patient at a local hospital.

📍Providence hospital ➡️ ambulance to helipad ➡️ helicopter to Boston hospital. 📍

Rotorwing Captain Atkins tells me he was the first to land a military H-60 helicopter on Rhode Island Hospital’s helipad shortly after it was built in the late 2000’s, proving that the hospital was ready to accept almost any type of medical transport chopper when necessary.

This twin-engine Airbus typically cruises at about 130 knots or 150mph (but can push a little faster) and is marketed as the quietest helicopter in its class.

About 15 minutes after liftoff from the helipad on Willard Ave in Providence, this crew and their patient arrived on the rooftop of Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Today, we are excited to announce that we have not only added a new rescue with modernized features for faster response times, but for the first time in 10 years - we are expanding EMS coverage during the hours when our City sees the highest demand with a 10th staffed rescue. This expansion builds on the two impact rescues placed last fall and is part of our strategic plan to match emergency response resources to demands.

By collaborating and investing in our Fire Department, we continue to strengthen our public safety infrastructure and are building a safer Providence for all.
