🌿✨ Farm Fresh Fun at PVIS! ✨🌿

Our 6th-grade scientists brought their energy to the school farm today exploring the structure and function of plant cells (chloroplasts, cell walls, cell membranes) and understanding how plants support human health through oxygen production and essential nutrients. And WOW, what a productive day! 💪🌱 From planting and weeding to harvesting and fixing irrigation, these students got their hands dirty in the best way possible.

The highlight? 🥬 Harvesting fresh, crisp celery! Some students were so excited they even stopped by after class to take some home. 🏡💚 We love seeing their enthusiasm for growing and eating their own food.

Way to go, PVIS garden crew! 🌿🌞 #PVISFarm #HandsOnLearning #PVPUSD #GrowYourOwn #OutdoorClassroom #FarmToTable @pvis_seakings @pvpschools @pvis_ptsa @pvis.boosterclub @pvpusdsustainability @cafarmtoschool @wholefoodsfoundation by @pvschoolgardens

Repost from @miracatgarden

Come join us for a short and sweet morning in the garden doing some general tidying and maintenance!

Sunday Feb 9, 9am-11am

If you have any used tools or materials (but still in good condition!) you’d like to donate to the garden, this is also a great time to do that! We are in need of a wheelbarrow if you have one looking for a new home 👩🏼‍🌾

Hope to see you in the garden! by @pvschoolgardens

Posted @withregram • @pvpschools Palos Verdes High School junior Sofia Schrader is proudly representing PVPUSD as a student leader of the Blue Water Task Force for the Surfrider Foundation’s Teach & Test South Bay program! Earlier this month, Sofia joined Teach & Test Coordinator Mary Simun and West Basin Municipal Water District Director and Board President Desi Alvarez, along with other student leaders from Redondo Union High School, Mira Costa High School, and El Segundo High School, for the presentation of the program sponsorship check. The event celebrated the water district’s commitment to clean water and environmental education! 🌊🌎 #BlueWaterTaskForce #SurfriderFoundation #WestBasinWater #PVPUSDProud #OnePVPUSD @pvhs_seakings @pvpschools @pvpusdsustainability @surfridersouthbay @surfrider @westbasin #EarthDayEveryDay by @pvschoolgardens

🥕🌱 From Garden to Plate! 🌱🥕
Sharing our latest harvest of beautiful carrots and beets planted, grown and harvested by Farmer Nick and the students participating in @pvpschools @pvschoolgardens. These fresh veggies have made their way to our amazing restaurant partner Good Stuff @eatgoodstuff in Palos Verdes to be integrated into their heathy delicious menu items for everyone to enjoy!

Carrots and beets are nutritional powerhouses, packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, promoting healthy vision and skin, while beets support heart health and provide a natural energy boost. Don’t overlook the greens—both carrot tops and beet greens are loaded with nutrients like vitamin K and calcium, making them a delicious and nutritious addition to salads or sautés.

Extending a huge thanks to everyone making this farm-to-table journey possible! We are proud to be recognized as a Green Robbin School District this year and excited to show you how we have continued to raise the bar with our community connections to food, through our sustainability, wellness and community engagement initiatives!

Students began planting their new coastal sage scrub native garden habitat with Farmer Erin and our amazing parent garden team at Dapplegray this week! They are planting homes for our CA gnatcatcher, PV Blue Butterfly and more. Great job Colts! This habitat will be an excellent complement to the 3rd Grade Naturalist Program run by our community partners at the PVP Land Conservancy. @pvplc @dapplegraypta @dgcolts3011 @pvschoolgardens @cnps_south_coast @theodorepayne #pvpusd #environmentalscience #steamgarden #palosverdes #schoolgarden #outdooreducation #nativegarden #habitatgardening #dudleya #rattlepod #capoppy #deerweed #purplesage #artemesia #yarrow #lemonadeberry #toyon #pricklypearcactus by @pvschoolgardens

The student garden clubs harvest and prepare the stand offerings to connect and nourish our community through food. Come say hi to the folks helping us run your school programs this year and pick up a bundle of beautiful herbs or greens for your holiday table. Didn’t make it to the stand? DM us for a hook up! Thank you to our schools and community partners for your support!
