Last week to visit ‘The Cenote Ring’, a solo exhibition of recent works by multimedia artist Paola Estrella @py_star at @hs_projects

Comprising two distinct, yet intricately connected parts, this exhibition follows Estrella’s recent performance @stonenest_ldn and constitutes the artist’s interpretation of the unique geological formations in her native Mexico, which have served as a source of wonder and inspiration for generations of explorers and storytellers.

Estrella perceives the underwater landscapes, which were formed by an ancient asteroid impact, as sites of myth, memory and transformation, depicting the otherworldly atmosphere of the overgrown sinkholes in layers of vibrant textures and forms. The paintings capture the natural beauty of the caves, their unique characteristics and narratives, connecting into sites of ecological and spiritual sonority.

Thank you to everyone who was there for the culmination of The Cenote Ring. You filled the space and more importantly, myself to maximum capacity. 💫

I was deeply moved by my collaborators, who delivered profound and impeccable performances. It felt magical to orchestrate a combination of mediums to channel what forms us and at the same time, exceeds us. A portal truly opened through the power of storytelling.

Join us for the third instalment of WIP: Sharing Space – an evening of work-in-progress performances led by Diasporas Now artist Paola Estrella.

Mexico-born and London-based, Estrella (@py_star) is a multimedia artist working across painting, video, installation, and performance. Drawing on speculative fiction, her practice investigates how imagination, technology, and belief systems shape identity, social norms, and our sense of reality. Through her work, she invites audiences to consider the intricate interplay between personal and collective worldviews.

For this edition, Paola collaborates with ICA Creatives Elie Arden, Jiho Lee, and Sofia Pomeroy, cultivating a space of mentorship, skill-sharing, and creative exchange.

Every year @orleanshousegallery selects artists for its Emerging Artists Programme, and this year all three of them are MA Contemporary Art Pratice graduates: @malgorzata_lisiecka, @mujtaba__asif and Paola Estrella @py_star🔥 🔥 🔥

The programme supports emerging artists in the first 10 years of their careers. And each artist will present a solo exhibition at the gallery between autumn 2026 and spring 2027. Paola Estrella's exhibition is the first, Deep Time Currents is open now at the gallery until 29 November 2026.

Deep Time Currents is a new iteration of Paola's ongoing project The Cenote Ring, bringing together painting, moving image, sound and installation to explore deep time, ecological fragility and the relationships between bodies, water and the earth.

We are happy to present Paola Estrella as one of our artists for our Booth at @swabartfair these next days from the 8th-12th of October.

Paola has veen working on a new body of work, relating water as portals to other worldy spiritual realms.

Paola is a A Mexico-born, London-based artist working across painting, performance, video and installation, who uses speculative fiction to bring ecology, spirituality and technology into relation.

I want to invite you to Deep Time Currents, my solo exhibition at @orleanshousegallery and a new iteration of The Cenote Ring.

Orleans House Gallery is very special to me. It was my local gallery when I lived in Richmond and, together with Richmond Council, supported the project in 2024, when it was still only an idea.

Inspired by the cenotes of Yucatán, the exhibition brings together paintings, moving image, sound developed with @bon_music_vision, and wool capes created with @gabriellevenguer. Moving between deep time and the present, it reflects on ecological fragility and the connections between bodies, water and the Earth.

We’re delighted to open our 2026-27 Emerging Artists Programme with Paola Estrella: Deep Time Currents @py_star

From 2 October 2026, the Stables Gallery will be transformed into a spatial environment where large-scale paintings, moving image and an evolving soundscape respond to one another. Rather than presenting nature as a static landscape, Deep Time Currents proposes a world in constant movement, where memory, geology and imagination flow together.

Inspired by the cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula - natural sinkholes connected through vast underground rivers - Paola’s work moves between deep time and the present, exploring cycles of creation and collapse, ecological fragility, and the interconnected relationships between bodies, water and the Earth.
