Conviction, 2026.
.
.
.
The more I print and reprint this photo, and the longer I sit with this portrait, the more I understand the message I sought out to deliver months ago.
.
This portrait is the embodiment of how I perceive masculinity. The mask we wear when we feel uncomfortable and guarded, but how that same mask melts when you feel accepted and vulnerable around the ones you love. How society has painted men, specifically black men, as this impenetrable entity without empathy, only anger.
.
Over the past 2 years I have created different iteretions of this feeling on “letting go”, and for me, it is most present in this portrait.
.
Thank you to my homie @pyro.__ for helping me create this! by @pyro.__

December 12th, 2025 will forever mark a turning point in my life, the day I graduate a semester early from THE North Carolina Central University School of Law. For a girl from Monroe, Louisiana, I always knew there was a bigger world waiting for me, and I carved my place in it with discipline, grit, and the belief that “impossible” is just a dare. Being diagnosed with Lupus and retiring from the military at a young age, serving as a SAPR Victim Advocate in the United States Navy, and later working directly for a Secretary of Veterans Affairs reshaped how I understand commitment, justice, leadership, and service. As the first attorney in my family, soon I’ll be stepping into my dream role at one of the top veterans law firms in the country, and even that is only the beginning.

This degree is more than an accomplishment. It is a mission. A mission to stand up for homeless veterans who deserve far more than promises. A mission to elevate my advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, carrying forward the responsibility I embraced in the Navy. A mission to confront human trafficking and child exploitation with the power of the law and the courage to seek justice where it is most needed. A mission to encourage my Lupus brothers and sisters to fight pass the pain and persevere!

Every step of my journey has come from turning “no” into “I will.” When people told me it was too much, too hard, or out of reach, I proved that perseverance does not negotiate. My story is a reminder that resilience can rewrite destiny, and mine is still unfolding!
