Dianne J. Baptiste—lovingly known as Mommie 🩷
was quite literally the life of the party.

Whatever room she walked into, she commanded it.
And everybody loved her.

She married my dad at 19, had twins,
and went on to have six more children—
raising all of us in the most loving way.
Brooklyn born, and she’d remind you of that
every chance she got.

She wasn’t a Stepford wife.
She was fly.
She exuded flyness.
A true diva.

She was meticulous about caring for herself-
her clothes, her style, her presence.
Even the way she cooked and packed our lunches
was intentional.
Healthy. Flavorful. Full of love.
So much so that all the neighborhood kids
wanted to eat at our house.

Sharing was her language.
Giving was her nature.
If she had it, you had it.

She loved Luther Vandross.
Concerts with her girlfriends were non-negotiable.
She lived fully.
She tried things.
She was never afraid of discovery—
studying to be a docent one year,
learning how to sail another,
knowing the best designer consignment shops
back in the 80s before thrifting had a name.

Our home was always a refuge.
No matter how life unfolded,
we could always come back home.
She had a quiet knowing,
always knowing exactly what to say.

She mothered far beyond biology.
She adopted so many along the way.
No surprise she was called Mommie
even as a child herself,
because she was born to nurture.

She loved.
She cared.
She created safety wherever she went.
She made space for people to land, to rest, to heal.

She was a mother.
She was Mother.

Ten years ago, Parkinson’s tried to confine her light.
Watching that was heartbreaking.
But love surrounded her until the very end.

We are honored to be her children.
We would choose her a thousand times
in every lifetime.

She is no longer a prisoner of her body.
She is finally free.

We love you, Mommy. 🤍🕊️
