SATURDAY night in PORTLAND – the QTN Oregon Country Fair Band live in concert at PDX Eastside Jewish Community Center at SE 20th and Sandy Blvd. Amy Danziger (of Mood Area 52), cello; Courtney Von Drehle, accordion; Andrew Allikhanov, clarinet; and QTN on guitar, harmonicas and everything else. We have quite the harvest crop of wry offbeat tunes and adventurous musical spirit to share. To quote Courtney: "Spending a little time with QTN, and the topsy turvy nature of the world gets the kind of attention that shifts it closer to ordered symmetry - while still celebrating its obtuse angles and ways. Hands on musical-word-message-massages. He's a reflective man of the moment, who's music is full of humor, wordplay and organic flow. He's one of my people, and I'm looking forward to playing music with him and this band of merry musical pranksters." by @qtntity

Wendell Berry RIP. ................................................................A Poem on Hope

It is hard to have hope. It is harder as you grow old,
for hope must not depend on feeling good
and there’s the dream of loneliness at absolute midnight.
You also have withdrawn belief in the present reality
of the future, which surely will surprise us,
and hope is harder when it cannot come by prediction
anymore than by wishing. But stop dithering.
The young ask the old to hope. What will you tell them?
Tell them at least what you say to yourself.
Because we have not made our lives to fit
our places, the forests are ruined, the fields, eroded,
the streams polluted, the mountains, overturned. Hope
then to belong to your place by your own knowledge
of what it is that no other place is, and by
your caring for it, as you care for no other place, this
knowledge cannot be taken from you by power or by wealth.
It will stop your ears to the powerful when they ask
for your faith, and to the wealthy when they ask for your land
and your work. Be still and listen to the voices that belong
to the stream banks and the trees and the open fields.
Find your hope, then, on the ground under your feet.
Your hope of Heaven, let it rest on the ground underfoot.
The world is no better than its places. Its places at last
are no better than their people while their people
continue in them. When the people make
dark the light within them, the world darkens. by @qtntity

Join us in the hop garden for a splendid summer evening of music and friends!

Oregon songpoet and wordsmith musician, Brian QTN, writes songs with offbeat and touching lyrical observations on the socialography of the human condition. A 36 year veteran of the Oregon Country Fair and a 45 year mainstay of the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, Brian’s songs are filled with wordplay meta-fables and folky jazz melodies His story-songs are laughable, affable, unforgettable doorways into another realm. He has shared the stage with BIg Thief, Adrianne Lenker, Shawn Phillips, Willy Porter, Butch Hancock, Tracy Grammer, Peter Wilde, Steve Fisher, Chris Chandler and many others.

Amy Danziger comes from a long line of musicians and has been in love with the cello for as long as she can remember. She is a member of the eclectic band Mood Area 52, and has performed and recorded with many others, in a variety of genres. She is a composer and published songwriter, and has taught elementary music for the last two decades. She has been happily fiddlin’ with Brian QTN since 2003.

Special guest opener, Alexa Ro, is a vocalist and songwriter who sprouted up in the Pacific Northwest and has been singing ever since.

Her solo music is folk pop led by soulful vocals with a punch and accompanied by a tiny ukulele. Her songs are inspired by nature, the healing journey, and blooming forth. taken in Viking Brewing Company by @qtntity

This Tuesday is an important and special fundraiser to help @tsunamibooks buy their building. The event will be held at the fabulous Garden on Friendly and I’ll be onboard to play a special set along with luminous cellist Amy Danziger. Whatever $$ are raised that night will be matched by a local anonymous donor so if you’ve been waiting to donate, your donation will be doubled. Also on the bill are Laura Kemp and Michael Roderick and Julia Frantz of @moodarea52. There will be a raffle with great Tsunami prizes too so bring 10 of your dearest friends and dig wild and imaginative music and summery fun with this very special Eugene community. See the Tsunami Books(dot) org website to find out more. by @qtntity

I've just returned from the 2026 Oregon Country Fair and am getting ready for my annual concert in Eugene's Scobert Park this evening Wednesday at 6:30 with Amy Danziger and guests. If you're anywhere near Eugene, come see us! It is free and open to all ages. Bring lawn chairs, a picnic, your kids and well behaved dogs!

Here are a few photo moments taken by me and others. The QTNBand (this year featuring Amy Danziger, Jesse Dalton, Courtney Von Drehle, Andrew Alikhanov and I) played two sets at the legendary Blue Moon Stage. Of course it's just a stage we were going through, but we sure had big fun.
