Belated life consideration but how is it that I'm 36 and a mother now? Imposter syndrome as an adulting adult still plagues me, but it's also nice that with age comes a bit more gumption to call a spade a spade, to assert myself more and feel a little less self-conscious because of all my life's energies poured into my little chick-ka-chu.

Before motherhood I 100% thought of myself as a chill princess but through the breastfeeding undersupply issues (biological incapability sucks and breastfeeding research is woefully lacking indeed), the sleepless nights, the willingness to eat scraps from the floor (5 second rule right!!) during weaning season, working 35-40 hours a week, dousing my son with the showerhead (because ain't nobody got time to gently soak a baby in a tub sometimes), I realised now I'm a less chill warrior princess who tries to adapt on the fly and pray for the best 🤣

A part of me feared the existential changes motherhood could and would wreak overnight and it was frightening to me that not only life would change, but that I would fundamentally change too. Admittedly I'm more easily frustrated these days and chronically crabby, but thankfully there's @djking611 to hold me in those moments, ply me with coffee and commiserate the less glamorous aspects of parenthood together. What a blessing it is to have come thus far in life so far. What a blessing it is for us to have Jacob in our lives. 🩷

Also to all my mum friends: I'm so thankful that I have my pick of women to complain to and share both the joys of and woes of ageing and motherhood, thank you. by @queenieofbabble

Japan all in all:

1) The service staff who painstakingly helped us forward our luggage. 🩷 Luggage forwarding saves lives.

2) My bookmark had fallen from my book and fluttered through the teeming crowd on the subway. I thought I had to leave it somewhere amidst people's feet because we had reached our stop - but a young man ran out of the subway after me to pass me the bookmark before rushing back into the train for his journey again. Had to remind myself I had a husband 😌

3) Decided there would never be a time when I would be at the 'right' size for wearing a kimono. Just did it with no regrets and had a good time!! 👘 Though David decided to sit out on the soft cultural appropriation, he very sweetly located, mapped out the rental store and trekked 40 minutes there with me. Then, he rewarded himself with coffee, a custard puff and ice-cream.

4) As a teenager, onsens pained me because I was so terribly self-conscious. As a woman in her thirties: who cares I just want that hot soakkkkkk yaaassss 🔥 relaxation 🔥 ahhhhh. And it was nice to be able to reassure my husband about onsen norms.

5) It feels like a holiday when you have the time to ownself own chemical peel after a soak in a hot tub.

6) I'm actually in a country warm enough to desire cold tea, iced coffee au lait and iced matchas once more. Also fell in love with Amazake.

7) Google Maps is actually really accurate with telling you which platforms to get on and off.

9) My husband's golden retriever level excitement at seeing Mount Fuji every time. His amusement at different train station melodies.

10) Convenience store dessert routine every night.

11) Japan has something against decaf coffee and tea but thankfully we eventually located the carton bottled rooibos.

12) How is it that Europe has not discovered the civilisation of affordable vending machines and toilet bowls with bidets.

13) My parents buying me soft toys and food. Wept harder than usual when I parted from them. I sometimes think I am not good enough as a daughter because I moved so far away, but am so thankful they have always ultimately trusted my decisions in life. taken in Kiyomizu-dera by @queenieofbabble

That summer we spotted rainbows in the lochs. Really had much needed girl time in the Scottish Highlands with @farpavilions and Zhi. One thing I really miss from back home: just my regular lassies to chill with, talk to about anything and also learn from because seriously, I'm always in awe of how many fascinating things they read and know. Also hilarious how they met and stayed with both my in-laws and parents 🤭🤣 Gail still thinks I'm Cinderella (but now before the Fairy godmother bit). Or Belle (but in the village bit 🤣) by @queenieofbabble

A year since moving to Scotland and some signs I'm getting local (?)

1) I talk about the weather and can make gently sarcastic jokes about sunny days all year round. But truly, a vivid blue sky and sunshine streaming through dark clouds in East Lothian is always sublime to me

2) Fringe is cool but also me: oh no crowds

3) When people say "alright?" I no longer wonder if there's something on my face or if I look close to death's door

4) I think about cleaning and sleeping in our Haddington flat all the time

5) I really enjoy eating Haggis (the actual thing, not my friend's Great Dane)

6) I am finally understanding that there are differences across East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian

7) I understand the importance of double glazed windows for warmth

8) I give cyclists a smile and a thumbs-up when they are going uphill and I'm running downhill

9) I'm starting to use the word "wee" a lot more by @queenieofbabble

My lil bro @zilincutecute got married to @tinathetunaz !!!!!! 🥲 How is it we went from sitting in PJs watching Pokémon and Cardcaptor Sakura once a week together in our room to being married and in different countries so quickly 🥲

Jie always loves you 💞 We must always see each other every year.

The last of Spring/early summer was flurry of activities:

- met the sweetest girl @mercatorwalks

- ran a 10k

- visited family and was well-fed and watered @shehwan

- ate a ton

- saw husband @djking611 torture himself with a full marathon then I fried him some noodles that were approved by Meng

- spontaneous visit from @trasivur and watched Jeffree the Sphinx cat seduce him

- spontaneous meet-up with my sister-in-law @__rachel__king__

- reunited with work spouse and good chat with @marytmy
