We had a wonderful time at the Kingston WritersFest on October 2 at the Marriott. A huge thanks to everyone who came out - it was a fantastic turnout.

We thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtful conversations with the authors Judith Thompson (In Crow’s Field) and Helen Humphreys (Summerland).

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who joined us for such an engaging evening. Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we hold in our minds the survivors, families, and children affected by the residential school system - and we consider how art can both unsettle and educate.

@kentmonkman ’s "I Come from pâkwan kîsik, the Hole in the Sky" confronts colonial narratives with fierce colour and storytelling; it’s featured alongside Emily R. Zarevich’s essay ‘What Does It Mean to Be Legendary?’ in Queen’s Quarterly (Fall 2023).

We repost with permission and encourage readers to listen to Indigenous voices, read survivor testimony, and support Indigenous-led initiatives."

Here is Anna Yin reading her poem "Interviewing Yan Li" that she recorded for Blaine Boisvert's Radio Show. Yan Li has been published in the Queen's Quarterly over the years.

"I came to Canada from China as an adult. Before becoming a published poet, I worked full-time in the IT field. Poetry came later in my life, and it has changed and enriched me in many ways.
I feel fortunate to have so many friends supporting me on this journey. I am especially grateful to my publishers, particularly Frontenac House, for publishing Breaking into Blossom, my seventh poetry collection.
I'd like to share a few poems from this collection.
First, I'd like to read "Interviewing Yan Li."
Yan Li was a renowned Chinese poet and painter. I visited him in New York in 2022, and that visit inspired me to begin translating his poetry. Since then, seventeen of my translations with his poems have appeared in literary magazines, including Queen's Quarterly, Modern Poetry in Translation, and Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine. We had hoped to publish a collection of these translations together.
Sadly, Yan Li passed away on June 24, before that project could be completed. His passing was a great shock to me, and I would like to dedicate this reading to his memory. May he rest in peace.

One of our contributors, Anna Yin, was interviewed for the @poetlaureatepodcast at @haus.of.owl creation lab and her episode is now out!

"Anna speaks about her laureateship, teaching poetry in schools, the art of translation, her writing process, and more, but what struck me most was the way she spoke about accent, voice, and the experience of moving through language as a bilingual poet. It feels especially important to offer this perspective in a podcast, where listeners are invited not only to think about language, but to listen closely—to really hear Anna." Kyeren Regehr

Anna has a poem coming up in our Summer 2026 Issue to be released at the start of July 2026. by @queens_quarterly

On Page 15 of Volume 133 Issue 1 (Spring 2026) you will find a piece by Tanya Bellehumeur-Allatt titled "The Edge of the Map." 🌍

Through beautifully woven memories spanning from family canoe adventures in Quebec to navigating the lakes of the Arctic, she honors her father's legacy as a United Nations peacekeeper and a patient, quiet outdoorsman.

"The Edge of the Map" explores the silent but profound bonds between a father and daughter, the comfort found in practical gestures of care, and a cherished final birthday fishing trip they shared before his passing. It is a poignant, unforgettable meditation on grief, love, and navigating life's final thresholds.
