#fatvanitycheckpoint This Fat Vanity Checkpoint is also a hat tip to @andyfilmsandhikes because I went on a shitty hike to see shitty nature for my shitty mental health. It wasn’t difficult to maintain my shitty attitude around all this shitty sweaty vertical climbing and shitty mosquitos, but it was harder to flip hiking the bird when we got to all the beautiful blooming poppies and that purple bushy thing I dunno the name of. 🧡💜

To imagine, to warn, of an invented, inevitable, worst possible outcome of fatness; to think of fatness as inherently dangerous, and to use that perceived threat as justification for fat eradication efforts.

Using fatastrophizing rhetoric to justify fatphobic abuse, with its deep roots in misogynoir, is a popular tactic in the doctor’s office and in the legislative session. It is often extremely damaging for fat people to be in a medical setting because of the looming threat of fatastrophization, which can be deployed against us at any moment, depriving us of access to high-quality, evidence-based medical care.
