Philadelphia running community friends and peers: take a stand.Today, Queer Run and Lez Run published an open letter calling for nonbinary equity at the @philly_marathon.Right now, nonbinary athletes cannot compete in an elite division without registering as male or female—limiting access to the highest level of competition, prize money, and support.Philadelphia has already shown what equitable racing can look like. The Marathon should reflect that.For years, we’ve advocated, met with race organizers and @cityofphiladelphia officials, and proposed solutions. And still, nothing has changed the elite division policy.Meanwhile, many in the broader running community, whether due to lack of awareness or a belief that this issue is not significant enough, continue to partner with the Marathon without publicly addressing or advocating for change.At a certain point, we have to ask: if conversations aren’t shaping decisions, what will?Stand with us. Read the letter, sign it, and share it.Our letter calls for: • an elite nonbinary division • visible advocacy from our peer running organizations and leaders • running leaders to be thoughtful on engagement with Marathon-affiliated events while this issue remains unresolvedThis shouldn’t require legal action.
