Sanger Jiu Jitsu had some of its finest performances this weekend at one of the toughest tournaments in the United States — ADCC West Coast.

Robert Herrera (@r6bert), who just received his blue belt, delivered a true breakout performance. After losing his first match to a 10th Planet opponent coached by the infamous “Boogie Man,” Robert showed incredible resilience. He fought his way through the consolation brackets—also known as the blood rounds—winning three hard-fought matches in a row.

In an incredible twist, his final match for third place was a rematch against the same opponent who handed him his first loss. This time, Robert left no doubt. He dominated from the start and secured a submission victory in just 1 minute and 30 seconds, earning the bronze medal.

Not only did Robert get his run back, but he also brought redemption to the team by defeating a competitor from 10th Planet and their coach—someone we had previously lost to in a tough match at a past ADCC tournament.

What makes this even more impressive is that Robert has only been training for 18 months, with zero prior wrestling or martial arts experience. His growth has been nothing short of extraordinary, and he’s been on an incredible winning streak.

We love you, Robert. Thank you for representing Sanger Jiu Jitsu with heart, grit, and determination. by @r6bert
